Need an advice about adoptables

Hello, AB! I need an advice about some adoptables I bought from another artists. Recently, I noticed I have some interesting character designs I don't use and I don't plan to use ever, so, I decided to sell them. Honestly, I purchased them because I wanted to support the artists and to have character designs by them. These ones (adoptables) aren't just plain one side pictures, they are good reference sheets. I have a problem with one of them. I wanted to contact an artist about reselling this adoptable, but they deleted their FA page, and I don't even remember their email address (so I don't know how much I paid for this reference). What should I do? Is it OK to resell it without artist knowing, or is it absolute no-no?

I also don't remember any friends of this artist, but I know some people who drew commissions for them. But it's kinda creepy to contact them about their commissioner.

The artist nickname was Nonus, hope it's OK to mention it.

I have approved this despite you naming the artist as it's more of a lost contact/advice hybrid.

That said, my opinion is that if you can't contact the artist, don't sell the design. Usually when people sell adoptables, they put rules up on the page where they're being sold. It might not be a bad idea to record these somewhere in the future if you intend to buy more adoptables from now on.

Since you named them, they've also gone by "Coboye" and this is what I could find:

Weasyl; https://www.weasyl.com/~spacecoboye

Good luck!

I can't speak for all artists... but when I do adoptables, I am totally okay with people reselling them. However, I prefer they don't do it for more than what they paid me and they can't include any other art I may have done in order to raise the price. The new owner has to ask me for permission to repost any art other than the initial ref that I sold.

You can sell designs, as no one technically has rights to them. You can't sell another artist's artwork without permission.

While the above comment is technically true, I'd be wary of crossing any boundaries in the market. Since it runs primarily on good will and the honor system, it's best to respect an artist wishes despite there being no legal standing for designs.

In your case you're doing your due diligence, OP. If you really can't find the artist, it may be best to hang onto the design until you can.

I think asking the commissioners is fine since they do have a way to contact the artist to make sure about his policy.

SUPER LATE REPLY but hi hello, i'm nonus!

This is probably solved by now but when someone pays for a design from me i transfer the rights to the person who bought it, so they can do whatever they wish with it-- the main point from my perspective is that they enjoy the design while it lasts, then they are free to re-sell it as they choose!

Again sorry for the late reply, i rarely check this wonderful place!

Re: Adoptable
Advice posts are to be anonymous. We're not sure when the OP edited this in, but we will be screening this.

Oh whoops, don't mind me. I didn't see that Dani approved this as a lost contact.
