Advice on Anonymous Requests

Well i have been wondering about this considering i've been searching this on DA about this and wonder has anyone ever done these before? consdiering i've got a note from someone asking for a request for the user to be annonymous.  (Though on my DA page usually have to ask me since i don't do many of them on the site at all)  I do have a concern about this since usually something like this would go wrong real easily.

So i was wondering is this actually normal to do since i've never seen this before often and how did you handle this?

I've never done an anonymous request, but, I have done a commission on dA where the user asked to remain anonymous, so, I assume that they'd be relatively similar situations.

Personally, I don't really have an issue with it? I mean, if the user wishes to remain anonymous, then that's up to them. It'd be pretty simple to just post the image and state it was a request from a user who wishes to remain anonymous and leave it at that. That's essentially what I did in the case of the anonymous commission. I had a rather pleasant experience with the commissioner as well, so, I never really found it to be an issue.

But honestly, if you are really concerned with it, then just politely explain that you don't feel comfortable with doing anonymous requests. Your concerns over something should always come first. If something doesn't sit right with you, then you are not obligated to go along with it.

Edit: Fixed a minor spelling mistake.

I agree with Dark up there.

I've personally never seen a problem with people wanting to remain anonymous, especially if they're commissioning lewd things, and simply don't want it associated with them on a personal level. You never know when someone will search your name and did up stuff that you bought years ago.

Hasn't happened to me yet, thankfully. x3

However, I would personally be a little cautious if someone requested that it be completely anonymous, as in they request that you don't post the picture at all, either. I've seen an AB before where the commissioner requested the picture he purchased not be posted, but the artist posted it anyway. (I believe there was a bit of a language barrier there?)

As it turned out, one of the characters the commissioner requested to be used wasn't his own and he didn't have permission to use it.

Just saying, if something like that feels sketchy, there's a chance that it is. Not sure how high a chance, but I would tread carefully all the same. ^_^

I would never do a "private" request; as in, a requested piece of art you wouldn't be allowed to post. Aside the fact these people want you to give up any exposure and business the piece would have otherwise gotten you, I think these are often made by creepers who want you to draw porn of people's characters without their permission. Like "I like X's fursona but she won't let me draw/commission porn of her personal character with mine so I'll get it done privately" which is super creepy and gross.

As for an anonymous one? It depends. Personally I'm not really inclined to do requests anyway, if someone has an interesting enough concept I might consider it. But again, it couldn't be some creepy stalker crap.

I've done anonymous commissions. Provided both parties have shown consent that the image should exist (if it's a two character image), then there's nothing shady about it. Some folks just don't want to be linked to certain material, but so long as we can still post it's fine.

Yup, and some people are also nervous openly asking art from artists they really like so they might use sockpuppet/anon accounts to ask.

If they simply wish to have the image, when uploaded, attributed to "an anonymous commissioner" or "a private commissioner", no big deal.

I'd only worry about it if they wish to keep it from being posted, in which case I personally would add an additional charge.

I have't done this personally, but a good friend of mine has had a buyer ask to be anonymous when posting because otherwise they get OTHER artists approaching them asking them to buy commissions. And unfortunately, I can see why - because the same good friend draws for me quite often, and I recently had someone message me in that manner too. So I do know that's one reason why. Being approached by a random artist that you've never seen before to get asked if you'll commission them is -really- awkward, so it's a good reason to maybe not want your account listed with your commissioned work.
