WHAT: Premade Design Partial Suit - Wish the Husky for $180

WHEN: July 13, 2013 to Present Day

PROOF: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mhxc1wlsuia9im5/AADLQqaaARtci-vgZPS61yg0a

In July, I contacted StarFruitStudios about a pre-designed 'to be made' partial fursuit called Wish the Husky (Seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11072710/).

Wish was to be started when she returned from Vegas (July 26th) and estimated to be completed within 1-2 weeks. There was one other suit in her queue that was to be completed by July 18th. I set a tentative deadline in August for a con I was hoping to wear him to.

I sent a $50 downpayment, and the remaining $130 the following Thursday (July 18th).

Measurements were sent the same day. Contact waned after this, but I saw she was working on several art commissions and the other fursuit commission in queue, so I wasn't too concerned. I checked in a couple times, and received updates regarding the status of fur and other supply ordering. I didn't receive any updates after October 5, 2013.

In November, SugarFactory posted she lost her job. In December, she posted she was sick and would soon issue refunds. I attempted to contact her in December and January, but received no responses.

In January, I noticed her friends leaving shouts on her page that sounded like she was still working on artwork. One of them I noticed was a collab, so I noted this other artist in hopes they would know more about sugarfactory's whereabouts. They said she was sick, and that she wasn't directly working with them. They suggested to be patient and continue attempts to note her.

In late February, after an AB post was made (http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/742656.html), sugarfactory posted a journal apologizing and asking everyone to send in notes regarding refunds. She also stated that she would no longer take commissions. That journal has since been deleted. (It is worth noting that on April 10, 2014, sugarfactory started using the 'gummifruit' account to take plush and bandana commissions.)

I sent her multiple notes after this (about 1-2 a month), which either received no response, or a promise that it would be refunded soon (within a few days). At the end of April, she posted that her bank account was compromised for fraud, and refunds would be delayed again. (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5716269/)

I sent another note and posted a shout on kahuna. on May 21st, and received a response saying I would be refunded in 24 hours. Over Memorial Day weekend (May 23-25), sugarfactory attended Comicpalooza in Houston. The journal posted shows others still awaiting refunds as well: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5738187/

As of May 27, 2014, I still have not received a refund.

All shouts and/or public mentions of refunds owed have been quickly deleted.

EDIT: I was contacted by sugarfactory on 6/1/2014 and notified that she will be mailing out a money order for the amount owed on Monday, 6/2/2014. I will update this entry again once I have received it!

EDIT2: Money Order was received on 6/5/14 for the full amount owed. Case can now be considered resolved.

This is so disappointing. I really looked up to them as a talented professional. There's zero excuses for them ignoring you for so long.

She's done it to a few people before, it seems.

They got a new fursuit, seeing the date of the original submission being nine days ago. A full suit, which probably ran about 2000+ dollars.

Yeah. No wonder they're avoiding their customers. I would suggest a charge back since it's a physical item, not art. Think Paypal would grant you it. I'm not entirely sure, their TOS is all over the place with things.

They can make an honest attempt; but seeing as Paypal has a pretty strict 45 day limit* for such situations; the likelihood of their being a chargeback is nil.

*While I recognize their have been exceptions to this rule, this purchase was made nearly 11 months ago; the time frame is too wide for anything less than calling ones bank or CC company for options.

What a shame, Paypal should really reconsider with their physical item charge backs. That's why I'm so reluctant to buy pre-made suits from anyone.

But I think OP may have a chance if they pull all the proof together. Worth a shot, as a last resort.

So sorry OP, best of luck to ya.

Yeah, I'm going to attempt to go through Paypal if this doesn't resolve promptly (esp. since it was actually funded via Paypal's in house CC). It definitely is worth giving it a go at least.

I actually called them out on getting a new fursuit when first contacting them for a refund, and their explanation was "it was a gift from my parents". :/ It's a shame because it's a cute 'suit, but seeing it is just a slap in the face.

If for nothing else, I wanted to make this post so others that are owed refunds would step forward as well. I should've known better than to let it slip the 45 day mark, but I didn't think much of a wait on a craft commission like that.

Not even close to the first time, unfortunately...

I've had issues with her in the past as well :/. I had a collab commission between her and another artist, and had much the same issues as you. She's never answer my notes, only the other artist. Luckily I finally got the other artist to refund me after more than a few months of issues and constant missed deadlines and delays.

I actually have not gotten any refund either since I posted that A_B. Communication has been sparse with her, in fact I had to remind her several times to send me an email with supposed WIPs pics of the suit she was working on. I got the same "it was a gift from my parents" about the fursuit she was getting.

She even claimed to me that she would not be taking on anymore commissions, however she has opened up several times since then, and even started adoptables as well.

I tried contacting both Paypal and my CC company, but to got nowhere since so much time had passed. I hope that you have more luck than I do when it comes to this situation.

Apparently she owes someone else art, as well? Besides the A_B posters, I mean. http://scribbless.com/l/184705/Artist-who-owe-me-art--

I finally received a money order, so this can now be tagged as resolved. Thank you!
