I need some advice for this situation I have with a past commission I got from an artist. I'm not sure if this requires a "Beware" post or not, since it's just a promise they didn't keep, so that's where you guys come in.
Here's the scenario:
February 11th, 2013 ~ Artist advertises $30 2 Character commissions. I buy one.
February 18th, 2013 ~ I got some artwork that really was not up to par at all with the examples that they gave. I can't even bear to look at it, let alone put it in my gallery, and neither has the artist for that matter
February 18th, 2013 ~ Artist offers to refund half of the payment ($15), does so, and says:
"No problem. It was just one of those pieces that I just couldn't get to sit right. Haha, and no problem, I couldnt draw you an average piece and expect full payment, haha!"
Me: Thanks again, _____! I'd recommend you to anyone!
Artist: "Haha, seriously? Aaack you're too kind < 3333 And after my failure of art aswell!
Can I offer you anything else? (free of charge, obvs lmao)"
February 18th, 2013 ~ I ask them for a sketch, of something different.
Me: You like drawing fluffy things, yes?
Maybe a sketchy of those two as kitties in a pose you feel more comfortable with?
Artist: "aaah yes, fluffs < 33 Ill draw them for you, so I won't feel as guilty!"
May 26th, 2013 ~ I ask them again if they were still up for that sketch.
I get a reply the same day from the artist:
"Oh my gosh, I completely forgot about this! I'm sorry - Ill get it done ASAP."
December 24th, 2013 ~ I sent a reminder email to the artist, inquiring about the status of the sketch.
Me: Hey ______!
Hope you're having a good Christmas season. ^,=,^
If you have the chance to work on that sketch, I'm really excited to see how it comes out!
The note shows as read, but I still haven't had a reply from them.
What do I do? Is it wrong of me to pursue this further, since they asked me if I wanted anything else? Was it wrong of them to promise a sketch that they weren't sure to deliver?
I'm kinda at a fork in the road here. XD
I can provide screenshots of notes, artist's journals, and the commissioned piece if required. The artist has since then moved the commission examples in their ad journals to storage, so I can't provide those. :(
