Advice on Second Life Commissions

Anyone on here do any Second Life related commissions and have policies in their TOS/Commission info that work for them? I ask because last year I took on a commission that hasn't gone well at all and I'm having to compensate for my failure with the client currently. I didn't realize I've bitten off more then I could chew until it was too late in the commission, taking it on just ended up being a terrible mistake that I'm now desperately trying to fix.

It seems like it is a whole new can of worms regular digital artwork because it adds 3d modeling and programming, and builds can become more complex then you realize when the client wants their construction to have all the bells and whistles, and I'm not always sure they can provide them. It would compare to fursuiting, if someone asked for a suit with a list of animatronic features.

With Second-life avatar commissions we (myself and my partner at Tokushi who works on them.) Tend to only offer auction style commissions for full avatars. It is also very advisable to time yourself and calculate what is a good base price you should start your auction (or base price in general for the commission) at that concerns time and effort per hour.

Of course depending on the work, custom avatars from companies can reach $600 + USD. This covers the 3D modelling, rigging, skinning, HUD, scripting and AO if any and time spent.

For TOS we work mainly on one that I already have for my normal digital commissions. Retaining rights for us to present the final work, client may not reproduce and pass on avatar ect.

We offer copy and modify and no trans on the avatars (unless requested otherwise, in which we would need to discuss an extra fee on it being "open for commercial use".)

Hope that helps! If you have any questions feel free to ask :)
