Beware; Furbuy

Who - https://www.furaffinity.net/user/furbuy/ & http://www.furbuy.com/
Where - Via FA notes (Caps below)

I was recently contacted buy the FurAffinity account for Furbuy about hosting my auction on their website. The note was a typical copy/paste spam style note asking why I did not use their website, and asking how they could improve if it if I had issues.

I replied back, saying no one uses the website, (I've asked multiple artists and commissions who refuse to use it, plus every time I check the site, it's nearly empty) I also informed them that the times I used it back in the day, I was never paid, and outright scammed.

I was then sent a snarky reply, accused of lying, and what I think may be a threat? I am unsure. They tell me my business will fail. I do have an account, and I did in fact leave negative feedback for the buyers that refused to pay, and the time I was scammed it was after the artwork was completed. I was threatened in to a refund. I did not know about A_B at the time.

I sent a final reply telling them to cease contact, that their behavior would not get me to use their sirte, and that spam like ads via notes were against FA rules.

That was some overzealousness on our part, and as head administrator of FurBuy, I can assure folks that won't happen again.

Our goal is to improve our services and win back people's business, and we can't do that without talking to people in the community and finding out what their needs are. So I apologize if we came across as stepping on people's toes.

There's kind of a big difference between 'talking to people to find out their needs' and calling them liars and attacking them.

Yeah, what Kayla said. Blatantly insulting people and accusing them as liars when they get an honest answer after asking for feedback. "Stepping on people's toes" doesn't even begin to explain the lack of professionalism Furbuy has shown. You think that by bullying former users of Furbuy's going to get you any traffic? Nope. It just gets you named and shamed on A_B.

I've never heard of Furbuy before reading this article. I feel blessed I never did.

You're a mod here, correct? For the record, I personally had NOTHING to do with ANY of what's being discussed in this journal post, and all it looks like to me is a slander-fest against my name - not the site which I have very little to do with anymore.

Nobody came to me about this incident, a friend unrelated to FurBuy telling me about it this evening was the first I've heard about it. I'm no longer responsible for FurBuy's day to day operations nor it's PR and outreach programs, those are handled by site mods and admins these days. Trust me, I'm far too busy working on new code for the site and for other sites right now, I haven't been involved in this side of FurBuy for over a year now.

I would appreciate a moratorium on this thread if you cannot maintain that people stay on-topic about the real issue, how MY name is getting dragged through the dirt over something I didn't do is beyond me... Normally you guys don't tolerate this kind of slander in your community, so what gives this time around?

Thank you.

As owner/head mod, I'm going to go ahead and take this, since it's a significant issue.

First, as owner of FurBuy you are inextricably linked with the site, whether or not you claim to have anything to do with the PR side of things. People are naturally going to assume you are involved, especially as you have a documented history of advertising your site rather...directly.

Second, you are ultimately responsible for what your admins do. A more professional response might have been something along the lines of, "While I have had minimal input in the administration and PR for FurBuy for almost a year, I apologize for the behavior of my admin/PR person. The response you received for the feedback they requested was inappropriate and I will be discussing this, as well as proper advertising avenues, with my team."

Third, based on your claims I requested an FA moderator examine login data for the FurBuy account and your personal account. Connections between the two accounts during the dates on the above notes have been verified.

Based on this information, I'm going to continue to allow comments which equate you with the actions taken by the FA FurBuy account. You are welcome to reply to other comments here explaining that you personally did not send those notes, as long as the discussion remains civil.

Actually, that's on me. It's his company, but I'm now the head administrator. He gives me advice, but he's given operations over to me, so that he can be free to work under the hood.

And, as a side note, we all access everything about FurBuy through a VPN. That's the setup. When I speak as myself (Mordrul), I do it directly from my computer. When I speak or act as FurBuy, I do it through the tunnel, because it's FurBuy, not me.

Also and, there's actually a bunch of us on the staff, some of whom are more visible than others. I've talked to the staff member who did this, and it won't happen again.

Hello! I was one of the administrators which looked into the accounts, and unfortunately all of the evidence points to account abuse, whether or not there have been multiple users. When all of the ID info matches up, as well as activity times on the accounts in question, actions must be taken. In the end, it is the original account holder who is held responsible for any abuse of their accounts, especially in cases of shared account status.

I would highly suggest re-reading the Fur Affinity TOS if there are further questions. Thanks!

"Third, based on your claims I requested an FA moderator examine login data for the FurBuy account and your personal account. Connections between the two accounts during the dates on the above notes have been verified."

Very rarely do I see a somewhat believable lie get shut down that quickly on the internet. Good work. XD

Allow me to put this in perspective.

You own a company. Let's say, a frozen hamburger company.

Well, a bunch of consumers just opened many packages of your hamburgers and found frozen poop in their packages that were only formed into patties.

It doesn't really matter which one of your employee's did it. As the owner of the company, you are still responsible and share most of the blame. When consumers start up a class action lawsuit, It'll be you that's paying for it not only when you lose the lawsuit, but when the FDA forces you to recall your product.

In this case, your staff who is under your supervision went around sending harassing notes to people on FA. Since they're using your company, your brand as a name, every action that staff member takes represents you and your company. So it doesn't matter if it was you that was doing it since every action your staff member takes represents you.

If you still want to argue about it which will be about as effective as punching a brick wall or shooting yourself in the foot, something from what I have noticed your company has been really good at doing this past few years is that if you cannot handle the consequences of running a company, then you shouldn't be running one.

In the future, please keep in mind every time you edit your comments here on LJ, every person who's either been replied to by you, made the post, and ESPECIALLY those who run the community... get notified. Repeatedly.

Please try not to abuse the LJ Edit feature out of respect for all those mentioned above. Thanks.

Sorry. Most of those edits I made were to fix grammar errors I noticed. I didn't realize it caused notifications.

I will do better to proofread in the future before hitting the post comment button.

I think the best approach to "winning people back" would be firstly, to drop personal advertising, such as noting people via FA. Banner ads and such are perfectly fine, but even spam advertisement emails don't reply to you if you choose not to avail yourself of their service.
Secondly, if you'd like to find out what people's needs are, start a forum thread, or a poll. You can advertise the links to said options without breaking rules OR stepping on toes.
And third, perhaps the "overzealous" members of your team should be relegated to technical problems/maintenance/etc, and kept out of the PR Department, they certainly aren't doing you any favors.
Sep. 8th, 2013 11:39 pm (UTC)
"Stepping on peoples toes" is... putting it lightly. It's outright harassment, and I sincerely hope Furbuy stays off of FA permanently. This has been a long standing issue with Furbuy and it's ex-owner (and apparently new owners/staff?). I thought you guys would have known better, truly.

So who on your staff did this? And where is their genuine apology? I'd like to know WHO on your staff is responsible.

Your company is literally tying it's own noose with interaction from OP's post, and no amount of phoned-in PR is going to help.

Sorry for the late reply, I hadn't realized any more comments were made.

As the 'victim' here, this was no where near 'stepping on anyones toes'. I was insulted and called a liar, that alone will make sure I never use your website again, even with a proper apology (Which I haven't seen yet!)
