Lost Contact!

Lost contact, help needed! Fossil

We agreed to have a tattoo fixed at AC2012 but that as well as FA:U2012 and FF2012, fell through with some confusion and some inability to get a hold of him.

I contacted him about a month before AC with the assumption he was attending. He messaged me back saying he was not and to wait until FA:U (2013) for a slot to get the art fixed. Seems he had something happen before FA:U and has been very inactive recently.

I sent him a note; he read it and no response. Then I sent an email asking for anything since I wasn't getting anything through FA. Time passed and I sent him another note asking for some sign of life and saying I emailed them.

He just got back on FA yesterday (seen via a fav on something, not a post/journal) and the note is read without a response... again...

This was a very expensive piece and I have attempted many times to get it fixed up.

I do not know WHAT happened, but I do know he is not responding to me. Should I wait a little longer, and give him one last chance, ask for a definite date/time/place and see how it goes? Or what else can I do to attempt to correct this?

So wait, is this a tattoo, or a tattoo design? :0

It was a tattoo that needed lots of work, not an art piece to become a tattoo.

If you ever DO get a hold of him, I would definitely just see if you can get your money back and get it done/fixed/etc. by a PROPER tattoo artist.. Sorry I don't have a more helpful comment, but I want to see you get a nice tattoo done.

if you've tried multiple times to get up with him to fix his own work and he's dodging you like this, it may be time to find another tattooer to try and fix it for you, or possibly cover it up if that's the way things pan out.

deadbeat tattooers piss me off. if you're gonna put it into someone's skin, own your work and stand behind it. there's no reason for this sort of thing to happen, period. i'm sorry it's happening to you :(

from what i heard around the tables at fa:u, fossil is just super busy right now. something like he's opening his own studio or something? i dunno anyway he made a Responsible Decision not to go and to focus on his home business.

i'd say give him a little more time, he's probably still juggling a lot with his studio.

That's not exactly a reason to just ignore someone though, frankly. Especially someone that paid you all ready.

if I were you I'd find a better artist to fix it.

it sucks that you'd have to pay someone else more money to fix it, but it's on your skin forever and if this guy made errors in the first place and is dodging you, I wouldn't want him near my skin

but this post is a little vague, so it's hard to give advice. what is the fix? was it something he did or maybe something gone wrong with healing? just a touch-up? cover-up? if it's something simple that you trust him with, be firm with a date.

The original tattoo was done by him and I've gotten a few people's opinion and they believe he didn't use proper pressure or enough ink and that he is at fault. (Not to mention extensive scaring.)

I feel as though I may be better off going elsewhere if this is how he is behaving.

I'm gonna echo the suggestion to get a refund and have it touched up in a professional setting instead. A furry con is not a great place to tat to begin with, at a bodymod con there's at least peer pressure to work cleanly and carefully.

Even if you can't get a refund, better be out the money and get a pro to do it than end up with even more scarring and maybe a side of Hep C.

I'd honestly really love to see the tattoo in question just to get a better feel for things. Most professional tattoo artists cringe at the idea of having to cover up scarring mostly because even if the cover up is successful the raised areas are still visible and harder to hide. It usually has to be hidden by shading and requires someone with a good eye color talent and whose been doing it for years. I honestly suggest going to local tattoo parlors and getting quotes to see if you can even get it fixed in the eyes of another artist.

I would NOT go back personally to the same artist who caused this damage to me. I'd ask for a refund and depending on the quotes to get their work fixed. If they willingly would help cover some of the damage they caused.

I've seen some of his works and personally some of his color works seem really light at the finish. And are his own photos... So I'm wondering how many other people had to go back for touch ups and things after a few years.

Good luck

I agree with this totally. I would NOT go back to him, and get a quote at local parlors for touch up (Or if they can, depending on the damage).

Sadly, Fossil has this sort of reputation for disappearing. While I heard primarily good things about him, he has another side of it. A lot of people complain that he takes money then sort of hides offline.

By all rights, he needs to refund you full or partial of your tattoo so you can have it touched up by someone else. He's ignoring you now, and definitely needs to buck up and contact you.

Also, you can see he did a big kickstarter for an art/animation adult-CD (Cherry DVD), and has yet to release content for it. Taking $6000 worth of crowdfunding cash, yet not doing anything with that for over a year. He's quickly falling into the "do not touch" business category.

The good thing is that he's actually reading your notes. Simply note him again requesting a partial refund since he does not seem interested in fixing the mistakes he has made to your tattoo so you will simply take your business elsewhere. Set a polite deadline and a fair refund you feel would be adequate and await his reply. If he reads your note and ignores your request for a refund (past your specified deadline) then feel free to post him here. Hopefully your request for a refund will be the kick up the bum he needs to get into action and complete your transaction.

He may not be reading them. I tested this out a while ago, if you delete a note, without reading it, it marks as read on the other users side, so you never really know.

Take it from me and my 2 massive tattoo mistakes on my arms; go to a legitimate studio. Even if he is a real tattoo artist get it done in an actual place of business.

He's a friend of mine so hopefully this doesnt sound too harsh. There is an error on the last one he did for me (in a hotel room with proper sterilized gear :p) and he offered to fix it for free, but I haven't really happened upon him since. I've decided it would be better to get someone local to fix it :/ it was a tattoo to honor the memory of my dad and it makes me sad to have it in the state that its in.
Aug. 28th, 2013 11:41 am (UTC)
I don't blame you a memory tattoo is there as a reminder of the person you really don't want your reminder to honor them more of a tradgedy -.- hopefully it's an easy fix

He did a not-so-great job on the tattoos myself and my husband got from him, to the point where I got an expensive cover up to redo ALL of the lines and add shading to help fix the mistakes.

Please go to another artist and get a refund if possible!

I also recently had to have the tattoo that he did pretty much completely redone. Mine was supposed to be a simple, solid tribal sort of design. It was all splotched up and uneven, I literally had to have the entire thing reinked to make it uniformly solid.

My sister has had a tattoo done by him completed covered up. Fossil is a really nice guy, but I think his tattoos are subpar and I would really suggest either looking for a refund or writing it off as money lost and find a better artist to fix it up.
