BEWARE: Ivory Tigress

WHO: IvoryTigress (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/ivorytigress/).

WHERE: The commission process started through email then moved to FA notes.

WHAT: It was a digital icon that I was getting for my friend as a going away gift.

WHEN: October 30th, 2011 until August 14, 2013 - First sign of noted trouble was April 2012.

She was offering decently priced commissions and my best friend was moving away that May. As a gift, I wanted to get him an icon for FA since he didn't have one. She agreed by email to have it done by 11/30/2011. When she produced nothing, I had assumed it was due to the holidays and waited. By April 2012, I knew something was wrong and she wasn't responding to my emails although her profile says she responds to emails NOT notes. I finally got a response from her via FA Notes with a promise that she'll finish it soon. The sketch she provided was poorly done, but I continued to give her the benefit of the doubt. A sketch is a sketch, it is a rough draft. I thought she would clean it up a little bit. A year later and she finally responds to another note from me in May 2013. She apologized and promised it was priority and offered a refund. The commission was $7.50, but I paid $15 since she was so sweet. I figured getting a full refund ($15) would be a hassle, especially since she constantly posts journals complaining about her money problems and asking for donations so she can afford to eat that day (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11073414/). I told her I just wanted the icon and sent her the information again in May. It is now August and she isn't responding again, yet she posts other commissions online and even more journals complaining about money.

Edit: She heard about me trying to post on A_B and contacted me. She wanted to give me half a refund or live stream a sketch for me. I told her I didn't want anything, the damage was already done. She refunded half anyway and refunded everyone else's commissions as well claim that she was quitting commission work.

Current Mood: Nyah Nyah!

oh geeze... this is upsetting to hear. I have had a bit of attitude from this user, but I didn't post anything because I thought it was a one-time deal. I also purchased an item with intent to help, and while everyone else's pictures got finished mine just suddenly- dropped? When I asked about it, I was referred to 'if I had READ her journals' I would know that her computer crashed. Apparently my finished commission was on the computer, but I was not told it was finished so I assumed she wasn't working on commissions at all- until, well, she did start working on newer commissions. After complaining again, I finally got my image, so all in all it is resolved now, but not without a refund request and two separate notes about it.

It's a shame you were left waiting so long. Sorry you had such a hassle. :(

I'm glad you finally got something to show for your efforts :)

I had to deal with the computer crash as well, but I couldn't find the email to post as proof :x She had said it was a finished piece and that she emailed it to me, but I never received it and asked for her to re-send it. She said she couldn't because it was on her computer that died a week ago. I had her re-do it and only then did I get a wip and then she poofed away again.

I appreciate the sentiment. :) thanks Pandactyl

Unless she deleted the e-mail from her outbox (which is a stupid thing to do imo) she should have been able to resend the e-mail back to you. The image should have still been there attached,if she did in fact send it. It's not going to magically disappear. I'm pretty sure her computer dying shouldn't have affected her gmail account either.

I think that might have been a case of she didn't do that commission and came up with an excuse.

This. I had a hard drive failure and lost some of my personal character refs. There was one that hadn't been uploaded anywhere that I sent to a friend for a commission and I was able to redownload it from my outbox. Saved me a huge amount of hassle and misery.

I'm also wondering what happened to her computer, because of it was a motherboard crash, power issue, etc she could have pulled the HDD and put it in an external enclosure.

If they're not using an online email service (such as Yahoo, Gmail, etc.), they might not be able to retrieve it. There are still some email services (such as hosted .coms) that don't rely on web-based email, and thus there is no backup.

(I wouldn't expect most FA users to have a non-gmail email address, though. :P)

She only seems to be refunding people who email her. This journal entry makes me so angry, scouring journals for refund offers is not the customer's responsibility.

C/p journal entry:
Because I need to repost this again, as it seems to have been ignored by several people.

I understand several of my older commissions were NOT properly taken care of.
That have offered many times, and this will be my last time to offer.
On all of my older commissions, I AM offering refunds.
They are slow being gotten to, but I AM giving them.

She posted that immediately after responding to my email alerting her that I posted her on Artist Beware. I had unwatched her after the first 6 months of her ignoring me, but shame on me for not seeing her journals. :P

I hope you didn't interpret that as me being angry at the journal you posted here! It is definitely not yours or the rest of her commissioner's job to do that. The "last time to offer" part had me fuming!

Edit: I see below that she's now contacting people so that's good!

I just skimmed through a great deal of her journals. This woman is constantly posting about needing money for food/vet bills/video games (more than once, games.) She also says drawing causes her great pain and can't do it for more than three hours at a time - and yet she wants to, NEEDS to make it her living, with such a small number of watchers to boot? I really think she needs to pursue another line of work. :x

OP, I'm sorry to hear you got such attitude after waiting almost two years for an icon, yikes.

"with such a small number of watchers" - small? I know she is not mega popular, but over 1k watchers are a lot D: Especially to me who have 140 and consider that a decent amount ^^;
Aug. 17th, 2013 03:22 pm (UTC)
It all depends on perspective - to a watcher, 1k is nothing; to a fledgling artist, 1k is a dogsend.

And thanks Leahtaur. She does seem to need money an awful lot; one of the reasons I refused to take the refund. She has some rats that need TLC so I told her to use the money for that.
Aug. 17th, 2013 04:37 pm (UTC)
Some artists have 25,000, 1k is really not a lot. I had almost 5k and I still considered it a small amount and myself to be lesser known.
Aug. 17th, 2013 05:08 pm (UTC)
Oh sure, any amount of supporters is nice and all. But I'm talking about her decision to do art full time with her existing customer base. Speaking from first hand experience, I just don't think 1k watchers provides enough repeat business to support oneself. I tried to go full time with 4k, 4.5k, and I couldn't make it work. (Granted, I have higher expenses to pay.)
Aug. 17th, 2013 11:36 pm (UTC)
Ah yes, depending too heavily on a smaller amount of commissioners/watchers is no good and I get what you mean.

I have no experience in supporting myself on art, but if she is depending on the commissioners heavily I would think pleasing the customers would be her absolute top priority.
Aug. 17th, 2013 04:49 pm (UTC)
I agree, if there's a health problem that limits how long she can work on art for and causes pain issues, it's not a good idea to use art commissions as an relied on income. In that case it's probably best to only take on one or two commissions at a time at most and use it as a supplement to another income.

Sorry to hear about your experience, OP. I had problems with Ivory as well, after snagging a spot in a YCH she'd posted... Then not hearing about it for a handful of months, while she continued to take more commissions via journal, and failed to respond to the e-mail I sent.

I did get *a* product in the end (one of the other slot-holders in the YCH had apparently filed a chargeback, so I agreed to a colored fullbody picture instead) ... And to her credit she did post a remorseful journal about not being able to complete all of her commissions, and was also very polite when I did speak with her.

So I don't believe she's maliciously trying to scam people or anything. Just needs to work on pacing herself before taking on commissions again.
Aug. 17th, 2013 03:20 pm (UTC)
No, she is as sweet as she can be, but her game got old really quick. If she lost interest in the commission or had issues, she should have messaged the commissioner about it instead of hiding. Her professionalism isn't what it should be. We aren't the only ones either, I've seen several people comment about their overdue commission and she hides their comments almost immediately.

She is nice, but sneaky sneaky. And sneaky sneaky is bad business. I hope your pic was up to expectations :) she can make some decent things.
Aug. 17th, 2013 11:45 pm (UTC)
I've had SO many problems with her in the past... She constantly agreed to buy things that I was selling (i.e. the hats I make or stuff on sales posts) and then drops out at the absolute last minute, after weeks of wild goose chases, claiming she needs the money for food and vet bills and then posts journals about purchasing WOW and video game stuff the next day.
I'm not saying she doesn't need the money for other necesarry things, because I know finances can be difficult, it's just extremely obnoxious when a transaction is agreed to and then just cancelled out of the blue at the last minute, once all other potential customers are no longer interested.

Artist Here
I had to take a couple of days, as I didn't want to respond emotionally to this.

I'm ashamed of how I've treated you, along with other commissioners. For anyone to treat someone, especially a patient customer like that, is disgusting. I've sent you the other 7.50, as I didn't deserve the kind tip you gave at the time of commissioning.

*Proof of both payments*

As of right now, I've closed down my commissions, and am in the process of messaging commissioners if they would like a full refund, or their art. I've given a hard date of September 10th, otherwise everyone will be receiving a refund. Me and my husband are currently discussing as what is going to happen with my art, but we're looking at a complete T.O.S rework, along with only taking at most 3 commissions in a public queue to be found on my front page.

I do request as you fix your edit. I did not contact you. You contacted me via my gmail account.
I'm still trying to understand why you would bring up my animals. I apologize for my snappy reply, however, bringing up my pets was not needed. They were not, and are not involved in our transactions.

Re: Artist Here
Another thing I'd like to note as well, is that the commissioner sent me an invoice, asking me to pay the service fee that Paypal takes out payments.
I cancelled it, letting her know I wouldn't do something against Paypal's TOS.

I have marked the post as resolved.
