WHO: Nathradas

WHERE: FurAffinity

WHAT: Full color single character piece, no background.

Nathradas opens up for regular character commissions. I inquire if I can reserve a slot since I'll have to wait for a bank transfer to clear into my Paypal account. She agrees.

I send payment and commission details to Nathradas. I'm thus listed as paid on her commission status journal.

I'm a patient person; I know that life and related issues come up- she'd posted that she was going through some stuff and that's fine. It happens. But after hearing nothing about my commission for almost a year, I sent a polite note to her on FA inquiring about my commission's status. This note has still gone unread.

I attempt to contact her by e-mail, through the account she provided. No response.

I attempt to get ahold of her on dA. I receive no response.

Two days later, Nathradas posts an image to her FA of the werewolf suit she has been working on for the past two weeks. The bottom of the description reads "(nope, in case you're wondering, I'm not gonna be back, not until January I'd say, I can't say yet tho, I have no clue how long it takes me to get stuff sorted out again)." I'm only including this because it's the only sort of message regarding what's going on in her end- not even a word towards me and my attempts to communicate with her.

I decide to be patient- maybe what's going on is really bad? So I wait until January and post a shout on her userpage to get her attention.
This also has the unintentional effect of having another one of her commissioners contact me in the hopes that I've at least heard anything from her.

Nathradas finally me an e-mail and informs me that she needs to talk to her bank about when she can refund me.
It's around this time that I started to experience some serious problems with Gmail such as it temporarily locking me out of my account due to alleged security issues and login conflicts, messages simply disappearing, and in the case of my phone; e-mail not showing up entirely, messages not being sent, and/or being sent in triplicate. This has hindered my ability to reply in a reasonable amount of time.

[02/16/13] - [03/28/13/]
I think this is really my fault here; she gets back to me and I feel as though this was my golden opportunity to get my refund and well. I missed it; I thought I replied much, much sooner and overall, I lost track of time between some pretty busy weeks at work and some family related drama. This is absolutely my bad here.

Sent a follow up e-mail. No response.

Yet another follow up e-mail. No response.

Commission journal on FA
Paypal receipt and commission e-mail
DeviantArt journal listing my status as paid as well as the commission agreement and terms of service
My initial note sent in August of this year
Follow-up e-mail
Image description posted almost two days after I tried noting her on dA
The comment I posted to her userpage.
Nathradas' e-mail response and mine.
My follow up e-mail.
Nathradas' reply, my reply, and another follow up e-mail.
My last e-mail, sent five days ago.
I'm only missing the note I sent over dA, but there are literally only two notes in my DeviantArt outbox and neither are directed towards the aritst. =/

At the end of August, 2011, I commissioned the artist Nathradas for a single character image with no background. With the Paypal fees, it came out to roughly $155 total. After patiently waiting for nearly a year, I attempted to make contact with the artist for any sort of progress regarding my commission to absolutely no avail until January of this year, when I publicly requested that she contact me in regards to this matter.

I've received two responses from her in regards to my efforts, all the while watching her actively post things to Tumblr, take on more commissions, and be generally involved with the online community. At this stage, I really, really just want my refund.

Hi! I've approved this but it appears you forgot to close a tag on your HTML towards the end of the post, to please fix that, thank you!

Oh geez. Hahahahaha.

It's been fixed! Thanks! =D

(This is slightly off topic, but I just wanted to say I really like your layout for this post. It was really easy to follow and understand!)

As for the post itself though that is seriously disappointing. You were very patient and respectful with your approaches, so I'm sad that it turned out like this for you. I also don't think it can be held against you too much for your few weeks of miscommunication, since its still on them to follow up on offers to refund people.

Hopefully this and the other beware will prompt her to respond and resolve this though. D:

Thank-you! =D

And yeah- I think that's what honestly bothers me the most about all of this. I mean. I deal with social anxiety too; I can empathize to a certain extent with how hard it is to reply to e-mail and that sometimes getting PMs and the ilk can feel invasive- which is why I tried approaching her as disarmingly as possible; I didn't want to scare her off or make her feel worse. I just wanted to work with her and come to a favorable conclusion for both of us.

But. I guess just ignoring everything and letting it all build up so that it's even more stressful is what she'd rather do.

I hope this posting does have an effect and can bring this to a resolution as well, but I honestly have my doubts.

This is completely unacceptable business practice.

Life gets crazy sometimes, unexpected emergencies pop up, but if you don't keep in touch with your commissioners... Even a journal just saying 'look, I'm having trouble getting the work done. I'm going to refund everyone as possible' is better than dead silence.

I see a shout on her page someone posted this past weekend saying she's active on tumblr. Perhaps you could contact her that way? Or attempt, if she's really ignoring everyone like it seems.

She is ignoring/deleting/blocking any and EVERY comment about commissions through her active sites/contacts unless it is directed through her teatime e-mail... As she said on her latest journal post.

But even so, she has yet to reply to my e-mails I sent her throughout the course of two months still. Beware definitely noted.

Have you tried emailing her again since her journal was posted?
May. 29th, 2013 02:47 am (UTC)
No because she said her internet was going to be down for a week, so I didn't bother. Already sent her three e-mails before that journal was posted.

I'd try it again. If the internet story is true, she'd still get your email when it came back online (or... y'know... went to an internet cafe/library/school/friend's house...)

Was this ever resolved? Has she replied to you since?
