What leads me here today is I feel like this is the last place I can go. I paid for artwork for this person over a year ago, and seems like I have no way to get my money or art from her. I really do not want anyone else to end up the same way so I am posting this here.

Back in early July/ late June 2011 I sold some loaned some costuming items and sold other costuming items as well as other items VHS tapes, clothes and books to her and her sister. I sold the items for a VERY good price. I accepted part of the payment to be made in art as well as cash. The following transaction happened via facebook. During the whole ordeal I have called and texted her having to find out from other people her phone is turned off, and never getting a reply back from her. At once point she even changed her number on me and never gave me the new telephone number.

After this last message I have been removed from her friends list on facebook.
UPDATE AS OF 9.11.2012
The artist I have made this post about has private messaged me on facebook today with this message.
For the record I do NOT make 20 facebook messages a day.

I cannot say for certain but I think this post on her timeline may also be about me.

I have not replied to ither about this, I was hoping for some advice on this matter and what to do. Please and Thank you.

UPDATE 10-21-2012

The artist has made an updated commission sheet, located here: http://emisa.deviantart.com/#/d5ie8y6

No where does this state she does not draw furries.

I still have not received any form of refund or art from this artist.

That's a really crap situation. :/

The way I see it, if you want to get your money, you've got a couple options in front of you. One thing you could do is take her to small claims court to get your stuff/the money back that way, but I wouldn't recommend this (or even threaten this) as your first means of getting some resolution.

Instead, I would contact her via email or PM and work out a payment plan. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume that she has the intention to pay you back, but isn't able to budget for it or is ashamed that she cannot pay you back in one lump sum. Be firm, but also reasonable, and above all - good luck!

It would cost me more than what she owes me to take her to court so that is not even an option. I really do appreciate your advice. Thank you

If you win, she pays the court fees plus what is owed you.

Okay, admittedly, she really could be dealing with a lot of crap right now that is eating up her time, but I don't know that I agree with some of how she's handled this. Some people with good intentions of getting artwork done/paid for really do get in a bind, but I feel like the vast majority of folks who claim this excuse are just using it as a crutch. And where she's taken so long to produce anything for you, it does cast some doubt on how truthful she's being. Sorry, just my opinion.

I'm not sure why she told you she could do furry art, then let it go, let it go, and finally came back and told you to pick something else. That right there comes across as a tad rude.

I would like to see what advice others have on this, since it is such a difficult scenario. It may just be that you will have to chalk it up to experience, in the end. I hope that's not the case.

I have made some updates to this post sense your comment, and with that I think you are right about chalking it up to experience at this point. Thank you for your advice.

Well, good for you for being able to accept that. This really is a sour situation, and I'm sorry you've had to deal with it. Best of luck to you in the future.

The real deal.
Okay first of all, the reason I didnt reply to you was because my grandmother had just died. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks till we took her to our home, and made it into a hospice. I didnt want to talk to you cuz I was not in a very social mood. My family and I HAVE BEEN IN MOURNING. Also funerals are VERY expensive. So My family is going through even more financial trouble.

I hadnt been online because I wasnt able to go to my friends house. I have no internet so I BORROW hers. You might not know it, but catholics have a prayer that goes on for one week. for that week I wasnt allowed to leave the house.

Also the reason I unfriended you was because were not friends anymore. Just because I did that doesnt mean I wasnt going to reply to your message. I was going to say that I'll return your red wig, and that your monster high picture had already been finished. I told you, I don't draw furries and you should respect that. I said that I would draw you something else but you kept denying my request.

Further note, I ALWAYS do my commissions. And if theyre late, which does happen sometimes, I ussually upgrade the picture, and throw in some freebies. Also its techniaclly not a commission. I cant "robb" you if you havent paid me anything. I said I'd do it as a bonus from when we bought the stuff. It was a deal we made as friends. You tried to take advantage of that by saying you wanted 7 characters. :T most of the time I usually only do one character, or couple for color.

(btw, my phones been disconnected for a month and a half. thats why I didnt give you my number. there would have been no point. If you don't belive me, ask rocky.)

For those of you who don't believe me, Here are some pictures of my grandmother at the hospital, and the funeral pamplet. Before you decide to hate me, please understand that there are two sides to a story.

I don't have my camera at the moment so I cant post pictures from the actual funeral. But seriously Sheri, you disgust me. that you would even post my information online and try to slander me. I'm pretty sure that's illegal.

Re: The real deal.
Between Summer of 2011 to Summer of 2012 when did your grandmother pass away? Even with a week of mo

If you knew you had a business arragement with the OP and you changed/turned off your number, why did you not A) inform OP yourself or B) insist on keeping contact for the transaction only via email?

Why didn't you simply return the items and end the transaction if the OP was pushing you to draw a subject you don't want to?

And lastly yes there are two sides to every story, thank you for yours but unless there is a highly gross untruth in this post, "slander" does noy apply.

Re: The real deal.
The only one who has been rude and slandering is you. Allowing people to refer to Sheri as a "bitch nigga furfag"? THAT is disgusting.
If you're broke, and uncomfortable with the subject matter of her commissions, then you had the very simple option of returning her the items. Simple as that. All you had to do was return the items if you were unable to produce a form of payment (money and art). Then all of this would have just gone away, and you would have been done with the situation.
I've known Sheri for a long time, and she is a sweet and extremely caring person, and people do constantly take advantage of her kindness. She didn't even mention this situation to anyone until things escalated and from my reading all of the notes, you became very unreasonable about giving her what she is owed. I don't consider her asking you for updates to be harassing at all.
She has never said anything nasty or slandering about you. All she has wondered is what did she do to deserve you to treat her like this, when she tried to do help you out with costume items.
I'm sorry for the loss of your grandmother, but that is a recent development in an on going situation which could have been resolved long before she became sick imo. Your loss is also not an excuse to be rude and try to get out of what you owe.
Posting your information, which is publicly accessible by anyone on the internet anyways, is not slander or illegal by the way.

I'll put this simply. You want this situation to be resolved and go away? Return the items to Sheri. That's all you have to do. Simple as that.

Re: The real deal.
Haha, i find it funny how she came on here to comment this and made herself look even worse. Just because you have real life issues, doesnt mean you should make other paying customers to suffer over it. its your job to get YOUR JOB done.

I was informed your grandmother became ill and went to the hospital on July 26, 2012.

I was told in mid may you could not pay me the money so you can buy an art tablet, and to wait till I could even ask you to do commissions even though mine had been paid for. I got no reply so I messaged you a couple weeks later in June. I was told to wait till after an anime convention. I was not happy about it but I wanted. I even waited till after another anime convention that you attended that was very shortly after.
On July 5th I was told you spent you money on a new phone and you had no idea when you could pay me back. You even told me “I've got more important things to worry about at the moment”
On July 6th I sent you the refs for the two commissions that you said were to be part of the payment for the costume items you have had for about a year if not more. This is also when I sent you “As per your request I waited till after AM2 to bother you about this issue again. So you can ether pay me the money I am asking for or you can return parts of what you bought (my choice) and we can call it even.”
Your reply was you did not have the enough markers (even though I told you they could be drawn digitally) for what I was asking and they had too many characters and I was told to wait to be paid till after the 20th of July.
I informed you July 8th that you could return the items to me and not worry about the art or the money and I even offered to come to your house to do a pick up, but that also was not ok with you.
The first time I asked for a commission was verbally, they were fur characters but you said you would not draw them because they were too weird. The second time I asked for a commission I asked for ponies, I was told you wanted to practice drawing ponies before drawing this. You never got back to me on this issue. Then you later changed your policy to no fur characters at all. I was told July 11th that I would be paid. I offered you this list of choices you could do on July 26th.
1. A refund, please return the red wig to me as this is something you are using the art to pay for. OR
2. Money to pay another artist for this piece. (I found an artist who would do all the charters in full color for $14) OR
3 Draw the piece.
You have claimed the monster high commission has been finished however I have not seen it, it is not posted up anywhere, and the way I had to find out you had finished it was reading you post on this journal.
This journal post is not made to slander you. I have had a very difficult time working with you and I do not want others to have to go through what I have while commissioning you.
