Next case - gafoxtaur/tinyfoxtaur

Back in 2008 the artist gafoxtaur posted a journal crying out to get commissions as he was having a cash crunch. (This wasn't the last time as he does this once in a while, then deletes the journals) Back then I had a good sum of money on my paypall account, money I could not spend otherwise and so I transferred 50 dollar, which topped the rates he asked for. Seeing that his art was pretty good and that there were commissions posted in his gallery I thought this was a good idea to commission him. The transfer was complete on the 11th November 2008, I have the paypall log saved and screen-saved.

In return I asked him to make a coloured picture of my rp and story character "FoodFox".

Note on 11th November 2008

What I would like is a picture of my foodfox character. I've got two stories which may help you understand the concept, but they might be a little rough for your taste. Basically a FoodFox is a male feral fox raised and trained to be food. They are red foxes, having the typical size of a red fox and all its features. Around its neck it has a collar, which can have any colour or pattern and attached to the collar is a small tag down the chest with the word "Food Fox" engraved on it. They do not have a name, only a serial number (e.g. SB20207)
A Food Fox only has one life, which it devotes to becoming food for someone. They are trained to resist pain and can endure anything thrown at them. Even biting and cooking will not leave them in discomfort at all and they will remain happy as long as they're alive while being someone's food. They are the ultimate willing prey.

Now, what I would like to see, if you're ok doing this character and doing feral foxes in general, is to create a visualisation of this concept. Nothing gruesome, I want it the FoodFox to look cute. Put him in a dish on a plate or bowl, whatever dish you like to draw with this, alive and perfectly happy to be there. Collar still on, or next the dish on the table. The feral fox presents himself as food to the viewer and is cute doing this.

Are you interested?
Many thanks anyway ^^

Sure this seems easy enough to do. I'll look at the stories when I gt home from work today to get a better idea of what I can draw. :) And thank you so very much! :)

Being unfamiliar with commission waiting times and being too patient I did not bother him for a time. He gave out several journals stating he was dire in funds, had no scanner available etc. But after a while I noticed he was online and busy on his account, so I enquired to the status of my commission, but also complained about his failure to communicate and answer to my notes. I had to use a shout to get his attention.

November 23rd 2009

Sorry I've not responded. I've not had any ability to for a while, unless I can get past the filters on the comp at the public library. My computer has been dead for some time now. I'm supposed to be getting a loaner over Thanksgiving weekend from family when I go to visit them. Your art is done, I've just had no way of scanning or sending it to you. After this weekend, that will be remedied. Again, sorry for the lack of communication.

Now to get to the other fifty or so commissions before the end of the year.

But nothing was uploaded. At least not my commission. At first it seemed as if it took a little longer for him to get computers and other stuff. And he seemed to get a job and so on. So I was patient, but then I saw him upload art but of course my commission was not among it. And I noticed other commissioners were putting shouts up on his page. One commissioner had one of his commissions done within a week after he called the artist in his shouting box. And so I sent out notes and shouts at random intervals, but these were ignored. I was waiting and waiting until I realised it had been nearly 2 years since the money was transferred and I had not even seen the strike of a pencil for my commission even though he claimed it was done.

I shouted out trying to refresh his memory and to get him to upload it. It was ready he shouted back, sitting somewhere in a pile of old art. And he wanted me to refresh his memory. And so I did both in shout and note. But among his uploads none was mine. And so I sent him yet another note, this time with a warning.

September 22nd 2010

No rush I see. It's ok, I'll wait until the 11th November, when it will be a solid 2 years since I paid 50$ for it. I can't but notice how much you uploaded in the mean time.

It was the foodfox I asked for, a feral red male fox presenting himself to the viewer as food, cute, edible, possibly with a tag saying "food fox". At the time coloured pictures were at about 30$, since you were in need of money. And you left you at lib to set the theme.

Now I don't care if you ignore this pm as you did so often in the past. And I don't care if you call me a whining cunt, since I can't imagine how you would react were you in my position having not a shred of evidence anything at all was produced. I can back myself up with screenshots of my paypall account with the transaction on 11th November 2008, showing that I paid you 50$. And the pm's are still here, so I do have evidence. I want my commission I paid for, hi res in attachment to my email ***@...com
I will upload it to my FA page and if it's good enough I'll have a friend put it on Canvas for my wall. If you fail to do so, seeing you've uploaded plenty of other drawings right here, as far as I can see you're not being honest with me. You'll have taken my money, as far as I can see, and did not produce what it was for. Can you follow my line of thought?

I hope you do take me serious. If you can no longer find it, star over! I do want what I paid for.

September 22nd 2010

I've not been able to find it, so I';\ll just start over. I am sorry about the wait. And please don't think I'm ignoring you or your art. The stuff I've uploaded, a lot of it is either older stuff or art I owed other folks, and am just getting it up in the order I got it done. (I had over 50 of those $5 dollar sketches to do!). Since I am starting it over again, aside from him just bweing a non-anthro fox witht he tag on him, what situation did you want to see him in? About to be eaten, partially eaten? eaten by whom or by what?

And since then no notes were responded to, no shouts were responded to, no updates, no schedules to when he would sketch and draw and finish, no communication at all. His last upload was on October 16th and his last favourite was done on the 26th October.

I think I have been patient enough, to patient to be honest. I last commissions, which were the first commissions since this one as I was very wary of planting my money again, took less then a month between the money transfer and the commissions being brought to my mailbox. So I don't think this artist treats me right. And I have reason to believe I'm not the only commissioner of him left in the dark. And it's not as if he's a kid, his profile states he's 42.

So, I don't know what else to do at this point, other than post my story here and either get him to come clean and do the commissions or to warn others considering to commission him because his page states: Commissions are again OPEN! Get on the list while you can! The slots are filling FAST!
All I want is either my money back or my commission done or at least evidence such as WIP uploads that he is serious. I'm done listening to excuses.

Artist's beware has moved!
Do NOT repost your old bewares. They are being archived.

I feel the same way, Sadly he's not responded to my notes nor shouts. I'm still gonna wait a little longer though. At least until FWA...since for me that will have made it a full year.

This is unfortunate, but I probably wouldn't have used the word 'c*nt' while talking to them. That's just me personally, though.
Nov. 13th, 2010 06:57 am (UTC)
No, I said I didn't care if he called me a whining c*nt because he did post journals in the past calling out commissioners who called him on their commissions like that.

I know you didn't call them one - I just don't feel it's an appropriate word to use in a business transaction, period. It's only going to start more fires than anything. It's offensive regardless.

He's a 42-year-old man. And my previous more polite notes were mostly ignored. Taking people's money and not doing the service agreed on, that's offensive. Running off and hide when people demand the product they paid for, that's offensive. A tiny word for grown-ups, uttered to a grown-up and not even directed at the grown-up, how can that be offensive?
Nov. 13th, 2010 08:47 am (UTC)
Um. Because it's an offensive word? Personally I think using any sort of profanity in a business transaction especially, is extremely offensive, age notwithstanding. People can be offended by things like that regardless of a) age, b) whether it was pointed towards them or not, or c) whether or not that word is meant for 'grown-ups'.

I'm not saying their behavior was acceptable, or that you weren't justified in being frustrated, only that you could have been nicer about it, irritated as you may be. Not gonna lie, I've waited a long time for a commission before, but profanity never once crossed my mind, because it's rude and only makes me look less professional. Why bring myself down to their level?

I don't have much information to offer, but at one point at FWA this year, I sat beside him in the Artist's Alley. He was taking commissions and even offered to trade with me and a previous friend who was sitting on the other side of me.

I realize this thread is extremely old now, but I don't suppose you recall a fellow who came by that year, looked briefly at the stack of prints, and asked if anything in it was his?
To which Mike answered "Well, no. But if you'd like to pay me to do something now I can!"

I didn't particularly take note of who was beside him, but that was me if you do recall. Stood patiently for several moments while Mike was yucking it up over youtube videos on his phone, keeping a potential buyer waiting. I was so taken aback his reply that I just had nothing else to say. The audacity! Failure to produce for two years up to that point, and he has the nerve to sit there and suggest I should give him more money!

And now he's back to begging, it seems.

I was one of those 50 sketches and am in the same situation. Judging by the shouts on his page, a lot of other people are as well.
FWA is coming up here in a week and as of last year he had been planning on attending again this year. Is it worth trying to confront him as a group? Or is there anything that can be done? If he does show up, it doesn't seem right that he could take more money for commissions when he has so many outstanding.

Personally I can't attend any cons, because I don't do that. But I do think the important thing now is to spread the word far and wide so that any potential customer thinks twice before spending money on this guy. Until he clears up his act that is.

He can now be found on InkBunny as MichaelHiggs

Gave $60 in 2008, right before the big FA crash.
No longer interested in the art, I was never a fan, it was for an ex. :P
