We'll see... But considering what I just found out about our art commission... this is very appropriate.

I've never commissioned her, so I dont know if its quite my place to sign the petition. All I know is I've heard from dozens people that she has crooked them. And as tempted as I am to cough up a bit of cash and commission her, I know I would rather commission someone I know is reliable and know would actually finish my commission, especially for the price she sells her stuff for. I'm even beginning to wonder if anyone who commissions her even gets to see the final product, let alone have it sent to them. I also wonder if she knows how quickly she is damaging her reputation as an artist, and at such a young age, its actually rather sad. And once your reputation is damaged, its not that easy to fix. If she wants to be a professional one day like she claims, she needs to shape up and she needs to shape up fast.
At least this petition will get the word around about how unreliable she is with art. I dont necessarily think there should be a petition, but seeing how far this has come and how quick, I think its one step in the right direction to getting word around.

This is a little late, but...

Actually, my only transaction with her has been pleasant. Granted, it was very very simple. I saw a post of hers that was about money troubles and that she was doing digital sketch commissions for 10 each. I paid her $10 through paypal and got a sketch the very next day. Of course, I really wouldn't have expected less, as it was super easy.

But even considering that, I still don't think I would ever get anything else from her unless it was ridiculously cheap. I've heard way too many things about her poor business pracitces to risk it.

I think it's such a shame. She must have worked so hard to get to that level, put so much into it, and she's just throwing it all away. I just can't help but wonder why.

Since part of the problem - indeed, the major part of the problem - is not with her ripping people off selling prints or sketchbook art or the like, but with commissions to be paid for up front and completed later, this will have limited effect. The main thing to do is to get word of her actions out. This means posting to more than this community. It means posting to private journals, telling people in conversations, and so on. You might want to make up and distribute fliers at the various cons, too.

thank you for your support, and what you've heard about her is true...
Jul. 1st, 2005 02:16 am (UTC)
you have my full support. i don't think a convention should submit its attendees to a dishonest art seller. pickpockets and shoplifters are removed, so why should someone who robs people through broken contracts be allowed to remain?
it is especially unfair to the unwarned masses. you can only protect yourself against the risks you are AWARE of.

In regards to all this, I do not know Starfinder personally... I have never had dealings with her, but I have heard some from people who don't have positive things to say about her. Since I try not to form an opinion of someone before I get to know them, I don't think it's my place to sign this petition. I'm sorry Mid, you and Kahateni have been very good to me in regards to commissions and everything, but I can't sign this petition until I meet the girl in person, or have business dealing with her myself and find it nessecary to do so.

*pulls off business mask* And I thought I'd add, I really do like the additions you've made to your character design, just the teeny tweeks make a big difference. =)

I can understand you not wanting to sign, so.. Just don't bother with her. I'd hate to see you get caught up in her crap.

and thank you very much... I agree greatly... it's the little things that make a huge difference.

I've had many many many problems with Starfinder in the past, including failing to finish an art trade for almost two years and also watching innocent friends fall to her scams.

I signed this petition.

Let her learn the hard way... not through some silly 'petition', but instead just tell as many people as possible (like you already have in your previous post) what happened, and that will make them more wary of her products and her service as an artist. That is enough for people to not purchase items from her.

I don't agree with her business practices at all.

The spending of money that is given for a certain product or service before said service/product is completed and given to the customer, especially without TELLING them or ever giving them said commission, is terrible. If the payee is notified that said money is being spent and they agree to it, that is one thing. But refusing refunds WHEN REQUESTED and claiming hardships over--and over--and over is merely avoiding it. If she cannot complete said commissions then she should refund, contact the person and agree to something, or just not take them. If she needs to sell art so bad, I'm sure people will buy her originals or prints instead of not getting specific services they requested and paid for.

Her need for money is overriding her business ethics, if it is, as she says, a need. She could request donations instead if she is aware that she will become distracted from/not finish or do her commissions and not owe so many people something in return. I don't think complete banning from the entire convention is necessary--she can enjoy it WITHOUT a dealer's room booth or having art in auctions/the art show. That's what I think. She needs to sell that bad she can do it under-the-table or however it could be done if she is so desperate.

I just don't feel like those kinds of business ethics should be allowed to continue, especially since I heard of people having their business chased off by her comments.

Luckally I've never had to deal with any transactions involving Starfinder, but aside from business, I have spoken to her a few times casually and I can't say that I like her very much as a person. She is incredibly snooty and can't stop talking about herself, her age, and her art.

Basically, she's a kid. She has alot to learn about responsibility, but this gives her no excuse to run off with people's money. Though I speak as though I am the elder, I'm actually the same age as her, and as well take forever to finish commissions and the like, which is why I know it's primarily an adolescent responsibility issue. But for god sake, I don't run off with people's money. I KNOW that I take forever to finish commissions and therefore I actually do NOT accept payment until I am finished with the picture, because I don't want to make myself a reputation like THIS.
