And that's the tl;dr version. This is a rather annoying tale of an awesome sculptor ignoring a commissioner (me) that paid 100% up front over 2.5 years ago for something that was initially promised to be finished in 5 weeks time.
His FA is here (and funnily enough was just updated last night): http://www.furaffinity.net/user/glassjawboxer/
AIM and YIM screenname: steeldoerr
Email that he checks: steeldoerr@yahoo.com

I had commissioned him prior and received my piece from him, though I should have learned from my experience with him that I was due for a repeat. He is horrible in communicating back and went a whole year pretty much ignoring me. I had asked him nearly right after I got my last piece from him if we could work on something else. After some preliminary sketchwork, it was agreed upon what was going to be done and I sent full payment upfront via personal check. I was told this piece would take no more than 5 weeks to complete. Below is my timeline taken from my various emails to him. My last two emails were more along the lines of "Email me back, or else." with all prior ones simply being along the lines of "Where are you? Please just give me an update of what's going on. :(" tone. He has been extremely nice and apologetic in the emails he's replied back with, promising to "not keep me hanging so long anymore" but apparently like everything else he's said, could not keep his word on that. I have YIM chat logs and all my emails to him on my gmail.

Originally quoted 5 week completion time (please keep that in mind for the first 5-6 dates below). All of these items are me sending emails to him with any action behind it in parenthesis(unless otherwise noted):

2/5/08: Email Agreed upon price, full payment sent upfront ($X00: it was a lot)
3/18/08: Email request for progress (3/20/08 response with pictures of prelim and partially finished work)
3/27/08: Email request for progress (ignored)
4/2/08: Email request for progress (ignored)
4/10/08: Email request for progress (4/11/08 response that project will be delayed, no specifics given)
4/26/08: Email request for progress (6/8/08 response, promise that end of week progress shots, one sent on 6/17/08 with statement more of piece will be done and more pics sent within the day)
6/21/08: Email request for progress (ignored)
7/4/08: Email request for progress (7/5/10 progress shots sent)
8/13/08: YIM chat, progress shots stated would be sent next day (last contact through YIM)
8/16/08: Email request for picture (ignored)
9/16/08: Email request for picture (9/18/08 response with promise of progress pictures; never sent)
9/24/08: Email asking for pictures promised from 9/18/08 response (9/26/08 several progress pictures sent, still no estimated completion time)
10/15/08: Email request for progress (ignored)
11/11/08: Email request for progress (ignored)
1/29/09: Email request for progress (ignored)
4/11/09: Email request for progress (ignored)
5/3/09: Email request for progress (ignored)
5/10/09: Email request for progress (ignored)
5/28/09: Email request for progress (ignored)
7/19/09: Email request for progress (ignored)
10/7/09: Email request for progress (10/12/09 response with several progress pictures)
10/23/09: Email for estimated completion date (ignored)
11/28/09: Email for estimated completion date/status (ignored)
1/12/10: Email for estimated completion date/status (ignored)
2/14/10: Email for estimated completion date/status (2/17/10 response that piece is nearly done but other things are distracting, statement that no guaranteed completion date can be given)
2/27/10: Email request for progress (ignored)
4/4/10: Email request for progress (ignored)
6/9/10: (pissed) Email request for progress, ultimatum that I either want my money back at this point, or if I'm continued to be ignored, I'm posting my case to artists_beware (ignored)
7/20/10: (pissed) Email request for progress, statement that I'm posting to artist_beware and will consider filing a small claims suit to recoup money if no response is received by the end of July (ignored)

So, being as this is my first post to this community, I'd first like to ask if anyone knows any way to get ahold of him (I gave up trying to use FA notes). I have an address of his that I sent my check to but won't reveal that. I either want my piece from him finished and delivered to me by no later than the end of August 2010 or my money back. I'm going to have to look into filing a small claims suit against him that I will ask for interest and courts costs to be added to the settlement.
Has anyone else dealt with him? I know he has a commission list listed on his FA page somewhere...

Edit: Apparently there are some other people he's ignoring/screwed too after looking through his last FA journals. The first one looks like someone had a journal then deleted it:

**UPDATE 8/3/10** Apology email received from him stating that by Sunday (8/8/10), an update will be shown and I will be given the opportunity to request a full refund if I so choose. Will keep this updated with the outcome of that.

**UPDATE 8/10/10** Original deadline for 8/8/10 was missed but progress shots of the complete sculpted piece were shown on 8/10/10 and is satisfactory. The piece will be cast and painted and that is to be done fairly soon.

It would usually help to share some of the e-mails so we can see what you're talking about. Evidence speaks volumes in stuff like this. (Ah, so you did post to A_B I see!)

I'd have to go through 3 emails to piece them all out; one is about 60+ emails alone mixed in with stuff from my prior commission from him. If it's needed I'll post it but I have a feeling I'm not alone in this...

Oh man that's a real pity, even though I'm not for the porn stuff myself, the guy does great inking and I loved his style :[ Will make a note of this.

Wow, it sucks that someone so talented would be so neglectful to their commissioners. Funny, since he has another sculpture up there from a 'dissatisfied' customer and made a point that it had nothing to do with quality- maybe they got sick of the wait too? (and of course, all of FA bashed the unnamed commissioner for daring to be dissatisfied *eyeroll* )
Makes me sad that people still eagerly shove money at him when there's evidence that he doesn't 'put out' so to speak.

Unfortunately talent or skill does not necessarily come packaged with good business sense or decent customer service.

The Falco is really neat and well made, but pretty off-model if he was given the standard concept art as a ref. Assuming that is the case it's way too tall and skinny, and the head is completely wrong. 'course, he might have used an alternative reference.

I'm in the same situation.

I've got a 2 year old 5 page comic that I've paid $212 for in Sept 2008.

I created the first delays between september & october 08, but as of october 2008 he had control of the commission + all the references in hand.

After a year and a threat for refund I got 4 of the early sketches about a year ago.. actually exactly! It's dated aug 1st, 2009! I've got the email open right now. I'm sending another email now that he's posting again. I honestly had given up hope because he stopped posting on FA for 8 months until last week.

I have emails and notes but I've twice accidentally navigated away from the LJ comment page and lost my entire posting, I'm not searching through them a third time unless someone really cares >.>

This was the commission I picked up... that extra 6% for paypal fees bugs me a little now.

Considering PayPal feels are 3%, yeah I would be too.

And that it's against their ToS.

Commissioned him back in 05. He still owes me $100, since I've given up on recouping. He ignored me for no reason. One time he said my reaction towards his WIP wasn't 'the usual', don't know wtf that meant. Shame. Great artist though...

Stormcatcher commission
I'm the guy who deleted the journal under my old "stormcatcher_" profile, but trust me, I've had my share of difficulties with him, too - he actually sent me picture proof that he had my sculpture more than halfway done in 2010, but I haven't gotten any updates from him, since. It really escapes me why anyone would keep someone waiting for four years, put a lot of effort into a commission in a short time period, then abandon it again, but obviously, I'm not alone.

Got a documented complaint posting awaiting approval from the mods. He's usually been good about responding to postings here, but we'll see.
