Missing artist - Ziplocked

Ziplocked ( http://www.furaffinity.net/user/ziplocked ) has disappeared, along with a bunch of commissioners' money. Further details here:

As for my part in this:

I'd got in contact with her back in August for a commission. We talked about it on MSN, and she was really helpful and friendly, showing me the various WIPs of the pic. This pic was finished pretty quickly, and posted at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2638278/ (probably NSFW for nakedness)

Then in October, I asked her about another commission, and she said she'd take it, and that it'd be done by Xmas. Then she disappeared. In January, she appeard on MSN again:

(04:20) Djynn: well, like...four months ago, I asked for a commish from you....
(04:20) CHARGIN' MUH BEA: oh fuck shit holy crap i forgot about that
(04:21) CHARGIN' MUH BEA: im going to start on this right now oh god im so sorry =(
(04:22) CHARGIN' MUH BEA: was the one i total forgot about a commission?
(04:22) Djynn: yeah
we discussed it in...Octoberish
you said it'd be done by Xmas
(04:23) Djynn: x3
(04:26) Djynn: but yeah

In February, I got an update:

(21:49) I think you'll f: YES
I'mma be inking/colouring your commission todays
(21:49) I think you'll f: How much did you wanna pay for it again?
(21:50) Djynn: Awesome
it was gonna be either 20 or 25 I think
(21:51) I think you'll f: oh okay
(21:51) I think you'll f: JUST SO I KNOW BEFORE I WENT ALL OUT lol

And a few days later:

(22:19) Djynn - Happy Lo: So what be the status of mah commish?
(22:20) I think you'll f: FINISHED INKING. im going to be colouring next~~

She disappeared for a few weeks, resurfacing in March. We talked about the picture, and I paid:

(18:16) Simon: didn't you say you wanted to pay 30?
(18:16) Djynn: yyyyyyyyyyyes
(18:17) Simon: so 30 lol
(18:17) Djynn: okie= 3
(18:20) Simon: THX
(18:22) Djynn: where do I send it?
(18:25) Simon: edward_wong5380@msn.com
(18:31) Djynn: Sent =3
(18:42) Djynn: ^^ You got it?
(18:42) Simon: yes i did thankssssss~~~~
(18:42) Djynn: Yaaaaaaay
(18:42) Simon: im recolouring your commission so it should be done in a few hours

And that was the last I heard from her, apart from maybe two comments on one of her now-deleted journals. The only contact details I have are an MSN and Paypal account: edward_wong5380@msn.com. If anyone has any further information, that would be more than appreciated. Thank you!

TL;DR Paid for and received a commission, everything went swimmingly. Was told a second commission was almost ready, paid, then artist disappeared.

MSN/PayPal address: edwardwong5380@msn.com
PayPal name: Chelsea Kuhn

You know... just because you talked about a commission and she said she'd take it, if you never paid then this means she wasn't really under any real obligation to start in the first place. Honestly, I'm surprised you went along with it anyway, since you never paid previously you could have just let it go.

I did pay, though, once she showed me the finished sketch. I didn't let it go because I'd commissioned her before, and she was really friendly and communicative throughout the process - it's not a huge stretch of logic to assume she'd follow through a second time.

I'm confused - the post it looks like the OP paid for a first commission, received it, was told a second commission was almost done, paid $30 for it, and /didn't receive it/

So I'd say the OP was ripped off. Plus the other people Zip apparently owes money to.

It's a shame, I actually really like her art.

That's pretty much the gist of it. It's really disappointing - we seemed to get on well =/

The way it read to me, is that money didn't change hands for the second image until March. Not October when the second picture was first talked about. Not saying they weren't ripped off, but I mean, if someone disappeared for 3 months after talking about a commission, why bring it back up to that artist as though they still owe you if you never payed them those 3 months ago.

Because between October and January she completely disappeared?
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:51 pm (UTC)
That's kinda my point. I mean, I don't know but I would think that someone disappearing like that isn't a good sign, and to bring it up right after they appeared would not bode well.

Not saying what happened wasn't wrong, I just think you walked into it.

You could say that - but a few times before, an artist's gone AWOL for a couple of months, only to come back and continue working on something for me. Plus, the explanations for her absence (a bunch of family drama) seemed plausible enough.

Maybe the OP's tone was slightly off in that one IM, but I guess they still wanted the commission? They weren't super demanding - it's more weird to me the artist reacted to the question if it wasn't a paid commission XD

And as to why the OP went ahead and tried to get the commission from a disappearing, reappearing artist... I guess that's their choice. I probably wouldn't commission someone who could be hard to contact, but that's partly just from reading a lot of websites with scams and problems related to that XD In the end the OP didn't pay until they were told it would be done in a few hours... no reason to think the artist was so flakey that even that wouldn't happen!

It's kinda dodgy to me that they asked for more payment in march than what was originally agreed on before. Anyway have they actually been gone from everywhere since march or are they just avoiding you?
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:47 pm (UTC)
They've deleted everything on their FA and the artist hasn't been online on MSN for a couple of months. And it seems (according to the FA journals linked) that I'm not the only one who got ripped off.
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:51 pm (UTC)
Have they been reported to FA's staff? The admins should be able to retrieve an IP I believe which could then be used to track this person, and if you paid this person via paypal their real name should be attached to the transaction so they could be findable on myspace or facebook.
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:57 pm (UTC)
Okay, I have her real name and transaction details - should I include them in my post here?
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:59 pm (UTC)
I dont see anything in the community rules about not giving out rl names so go ahead I guess. It can't hurt.
Jun. 6th, 2010 04:09 pm (UTC)
Okay, added to the OP.
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:59 pm (UTC)
Does anyone know what happens if you file a claim or dispute with Paypal even if the 45 days is expired?
If it still creates any sort of black mark or hassle for the scammer, even if money won't ultimately be returned, it may be worth doing anyway...
Jun. 10th, 2010 08:42 pm (UTC)
Re: Paypal?
I believe it is taken into account when/if other problems with the person come up.

Ahh I'm glad this was finally posted up on here.

I don't really like how it went from being 20-25 to 30$ but since in this conversation you seem perfectly fine with the change in price, not really something for me to get into a fit over.

"I don't really like how it went from being 20-25 to 30$ "

Lol same here, its like... The artists service is getting worse and worse and the price is going up and up.

Anything new with this?
Jun. 29th, 2010 09:42 am (UTC)
No, no word from her. Been trying to find other people that she bailed on, but I've only been in contact with one other =/
Jun. 29th, 2010 05:42 pm (UTC)
Sorry to hear that. Let me know if it's resolved!
