Apology

I made a post concerning Jace aka Brian Harp, I made a mistake which I want to clarify, I made a rash decision and accused him on not finishing art, he might have done it in the past but come to think of it 8-9 months is not that much of a long time, I'm sure several other artists have been in the same situation

I had communication issues with Jace, I believe he can change and was promised art completion by December, if he can deliver by that date, I think he's worthy of another opportunity. I don't wish to stir up things any longer and I hope those with a grudge can forgive him like I did, from all this I learned that with communication anything can be worked out

I agree but I forgot to mention in proportion to what others were waiting is not much, still... it's not right to make a client wait that long

It's kind of the commissioner's prerogative as far as how long is too long.

If Drag has forgiven Jace, who the frick cares? It's between them anyway.

honestly, id keep the older post if I were you, anyone can suddenly "promise" he will change, and never do.
there were even artists who mocked their comissioners and promising they could do shit to damage them because they were "popufurs"

8-9 months with only a bad digital sketch? Yes, that is a long time :/
He's taking you for a ride, as he is with many other people, it's sad to see you willingly offer your back to him for it.

I think that's a rather long time for any kind of art, unless they have a very good, practical reason for the delay @_@

I'm stressed because I haven't completed some freebies I promised about a month or so back and I'd say I'm an average artist.

8-9 months is a ridiculous length of time. I feel guilty and horrible if I go over two on trades and freebies even though I am actually disabled and thus sometimes take longer to do things.

Seriously, an artist who can't complete the work at all (which jace is) let alone within a reasonable time limit? Shouldn't be taking commissions.

I suspect you'll be waiting forever for the work which will never come.

I agree with taking more commissions than you can handle

I guess time will tell

I'd say you were right to be worried. When someone forms a contract with someone else and then shows NO signs of ever intending to complete their side of it, then they can't blame the other party for being upset about it, and telling their side of the story to help warn others. This is somewhat of a reputation/referral based industry, after all.

Actions speak louder than words, and I would be very careful if I were you NOT to end up like some of the others who have been waiting years and are very, very unlikely to see any resolution. I say, give him a definitive date by which to have it completed, and in that message demand a refund or you'll take legal action. Filing a small claims case is not difficult and not expensive and you get your fee back if you win. What you have formed with the artist is a real contract and emails do count as evidence.

I wish more (any) people would actually file cases. It would send a message that artists can't conduct themselves this way and use the veil of the internet to protect their misdeeds.

This has been the most constructive advice yet, others are taking it too personal and agitating the already troublesome conflict

No screening or deleting of comments. EVER not of posts, he has every right to remove the posts he feels he wants to, other people have done it before, that rule basically keeps people from hand picking the comments they agree with or don't agree with

For the record, Jace took my money and I got nothing.

I paid $80 for a commission at FC2004. I was in the Navy, and I was wearing my uniform that day, and I gave his supposed "mate" $80 for the commission Jace and I had discussed. Well, his mate developed amnesia and I'm out $80. I mean, I think a 6' tall guy in full dress whites, giving you money at a FURRY CONVENTION would stick in your memory, but apparently not.

He's made a few blubberings here and there about doing something else for me, but he's all butt-hurt about the whole thing, so he doesn't want to do an otter now. One of his favorite critters, no less. Go figure.

For the record, if you want to get ANYTHING out of Jace, regardless of how much or how little you pay him, you must get inside his very small monkeysphere. To do that, you must:

1. Roleplay with him on Tapestries.
2. Scene vore with him.
3. Play a species he likes.

If you do those three things (all of them), he'll be all over you like flies on honey. You'll be showered with gift art left and right! (This has been played out multiple times, where he keeps posting gift art to his monkeysphere, but paid commissions languish.)

If not? Well...you already know where you stand.

I will say, he's a sweety when you're right in front of him, and a joy to watch as he works? But as soon as you are out of his vision, you no longer exist.
