some time ago, but relevant

well This was about three or four years ago now. but some of my friends have prodded me to say something. I suppose it is still relevant. Many here I am sure know of or know personally the fursuit artist Rose Quoll. Like I said about three maybe four years ago now. I commissioned my first fursuit from her. I picked it up at AC06. Well most of it anyway. I had payed for it all already, but the thing is it was missing foot paws, which she promised would be finished sometime in the near future because she ran out of material, Two weeks was the time frame she quoted me. I waited an extra week out of respect to ask about it again. I got a short tempered answer of hvign to wait another two weeks because she got behind schedule. After this next two weeks, which had turned into a month, I asked again since I hadn't seen or heard anything. I got a VERY short reply [short as in mean spirited]. and askign if I just wanted my money back.
No I do not want my money back, I want you to finish the job. I said. She claimed she would finish them soon. But I still never saw a thing. still haven't to this day.

Now having said all this. She is an excelent fursuit artist, only one thing really went wrong and that is the claws all fell our and I have holes in the thumbs, after one con. But still for working with plastic mesh, she did a good job. Though the eyes aren't secured in real well, another easy fix.
By this time My fursona has changed considerably but I still have his old style as a separate character, so the suit is still usable. if a little worn out. I did manage to get a pair of foot paws for it, but I got them from another company since Rose had screwed me over and didn't seem likely to make good on her claims. and she still hasn't, almost four years later. I went back and checked her site to see if maybe I'd missed something somewhere, but no nothing. the suit is still on there though. Karo the Kangaroo. in his old Black and Neon Green self. Now [as you can see] brown and tan with red markings.
I have heard from other folks that have had bad experiences with this artist, but i have also heard of very good experiences. So take this post as you may.

I've read other complaints about Rose Quoll in private journals. One wonders if this post will inspire others to add stories.

Can you tag this post? Tagging artist:Rose Quoll would be useful.

I have heard similar things about Rose Quoll but I have also read that she has stepped out of the fandom and the suiting market (unless something changed). She did make some really cute suits when she was making them re: NeoPanTyger.

NeoPanTyger is ADORABLE.

And judging by how he dances, it's a damn durable suit too.

I've heard at least one second hand story about a suit by Rose that felt 'rushed' if you will, one hand obviously didn't fit as well as the other, inner workings didn't work at all, and little help to getting them fixed. This came to be from the suit owner, so take that as you will. I've also heard some reports on the more negative side that aren't second hand, so I can't give them full credibility in this case. I am curious if more people will come forward..

You're not the only person she's pulled this kind of thing on. I know of quite a few others, including one very close friend of mine, whose tail I ended up making because she wasn't going to get it from Rose, even after years of promises.

Sadly you are not the only person never to have received items paid for from her. I don't suit at all but I know friends that haven't gotten things either.

I never particularly got fully what I asked for but it was so long ago and I had so much going on in my life that fursuit woes never seemed to be a big deal. My character has changed since then anyway so I'm modifying it now to suit :P

From what I've heard, your experience with her is not uncommon at all.

I was lucky to even get what I commissioned. It was late, poorly done, rushed, soles of the footpaws fell off within 30 mins of wear on a con hotel carpet, and her customer service skills *sucked*. The arms and handpaws were nice, but still...I wasted $650 and I would never, ever recommend her services to anyone.

Oh, so that's why you never wear it. :(

For one I'm not keen on the look of it - I recently modded it to make it look a little better but it's still fundamentally not great - and two, it doesn't fit. The head slips so I can't see out and needs a fair amount of work on the inside to make it fit (because of the construction method I'm yet to attempt this).

Really, I think a taxidermy-eyed head would suit your character better instead of toony.

Possibly, but I doubt I'd get another one done of her. :P

The original ones are slowly getting pushed out of the community (seems LJ only archives 402 posts back) but she's definitely been mentioend when she used to be more active. I know this wasn't the only one I read.

Kayto falls apart after/during most cons, I'm pretty sure I've re-sewn almost all of her. And right now her head is off being fixed up by Midori because I wasn't very pleased with it, not to mention it was a bit broken. Not to mention I have a new pair of feet/hands because the ones she came with were eehhh

If I had to go back and do it again, I'd save my money and commission someone else .___. I'm just lucky I got her at all - I got her right before she went MIA.

Mesh isn't the best medium to work in anyways, and usually breaks. Midori will make that thing super, her shit is fantastic.
If you're ever at furfright/AC and I'm not doing anything(Almost always) pop by and we can take a look and see if there's anything we can do about preventing your stuff from falling apart everytime you wear it :P

I will be at AC this year :3 If you could help me out with that it would be lovely, it's quite embarrassing to pop a seam while you're out suiting and just hope noone notices on your way back to the room to fix it XD

Not that I can talk when it comes to suits being a little over due.

But my partner has been waiting 3 years for his suit!!!
I've seen countless commissions get pushed ahead of his, rudeness and lies.

Seeing her take advantage of his kind nature, so she could buy more and more time, pushed me into doing something about it myself.

I wrote a blunt email stating how disappointed I was that she was putting my partner threw so much stress.
Only then did she feel guilty enough to start on his suit.

However, he still doesn't have his suit and looks like he won't end up getting wait he paid for anyway.

It's so sad to see a fellow builder with so much talent waste it and run her name into the ground.
Look, if you can't do it, don't take it on!!

Just keep it as a hobby, because she obviously can't run it as a business.

I'm glad to see people standing up about this, it will help others avoid allot of stress and disappointment in the future.

She IS slow, but I know somewhat why. She is badly burned out and I know how hard it is to work in that situation. She finished my commission but with a mistake (which was honestly my fault for not giving a clear description) and offered a total redo. I'm still waiting on that, but while she's defiantly slow, she has been pleasant to deal with and went above and beyond in my books offering a total redo when it was my mistake. There's my two cents anyway

I bought a $150 commission from her. I have not seen a sketch or anything. that was two years ago. She disgusts me as a "professional" business person.

If you can't take on commissions, don't beg for commissions, then turn around and insult the commissioner and claim things that are not true.
