Howdy folks! It's August already, can you believe it? That means only five more shopping months until Christmas! ... or time for another positive review post!

For those new to the community, this is a post for sharing GOOD experiences you had with a particular artist. Did someone go that extra mile for you? Work super hard to fix a problem? Share it here!

To help keep things organized, please follow this simple form:
Subject line: Name of person/company you recommend
1. Name of the person/company you recommend.

If you have multiple people to recommend, please put them in separate comments so everyone has their own spotlight.

Tired of being blown off by an artist.

Issue resolved. Thank you everyone for the advice, my friend FINALLY heard back from Abby and my refund is currently being cleared through paypal.

First off, apologies if this formats incorrectly, for some odd reason LJ's posting looks all weird and it's been years since I actually made a post.

For my friend’s birthday (March 3’rd) I told her I would pay for a $30 commission from an artist of her choice. I’ve never really commissioned anyone before, so I just stepped back and let my friend work out all of the details and I forked up the cash when prompted.

She has been waiting close to 6 months and no sign of the sketches, and on top of that the artist seems to be avoiding any and all attempts at communication.

If anyone has any suggestions of how to handle situations like this, I’d love to hear it.

Beware: PoisonousVixen

This is in regards to the following post: (Thanks again to all those who gave advice!)

There's also another account which appears to be an alternate account of hers on FA, but I don't know if I should mention it as I'm not 100% sure!
WHAT: This minor beware is with regards to their rude behaviour and disregard to T.O.S.

They have been banned on FA for art theft/ban evasion. I don't know any exact details of this, I'm afraid!
However, the following comment provided me with further info on her, and perhaps why more details/further bewares on her may be needed:

More screenshots of her rude/curious behaviour (Note that NONE of these are related to or directed at me! Just providing more proof to back up my case):
Also; these are rather interesting and contradictory: Screenshotted from her (Banned) deviantART account.

Of course, I can't really speak for any of this, as they're not my personal experiences. However, I felt I should provide more proof of her behaviour as I don't have many screenshots of the rudetowards me!

This first part is about the commissioning process.

This latter part is with regards to my TOS.

In short, Poisonousvixen was incredibly rude and showed a disregard to my TOS, even when I spoke to them politely. Quite a few people have mentioned their problems with her. So hopefully this post will spread the word and warn people to stay away!

Let me know if anything's missing and I'll edit to the best of my abilities. Apologies again for the lack of screenshots on the first part! :(

Flighty artist.

WHERE: Initiated contact on teenycom post, did business over dA notes.

WHAT: I ordered a lineart of a new character that had never been drawn before. We agreed on the price of 15$.

WHEN: Ordered the lineart October 24th, 2010.

Ordered the commission October 24th 2010, paid on the 25th.
Checked up on the status of my commission on November 15, 2010.
Checked up on the status for the second time on December 2nd, 2010, received a WIP. I asked for changes to be made.
Checked up on the status of my commission for a third time on December 29th, 2010, received a second WIP. There were a lot of things that I asked for at the very beginning that were ignored/forgotten, and for some reason the slot for the tail that was in the sketch disappeared in the second WIP, so I asked for that to be put back in. I never got a reply to this note.
Checked up on the status of my commission a fourth time on January 29th, 2011. I noticed that they made a teenycom post asking for more commissions after telling me their scanner wasn't working, so I hoped they had it fixed and we could move on with my commission. This is also left unanswered.
Finally, the note above is answered on April 15th, 2011. The commission still isn't finished and I felt very snubbed being ignored while they kept trying to sell commissions. I asked for a refund.
We had a back and forth about me asking for a refund.
Continuation of above. Tired of arguing and tired of them, I conceded and agreed to let them finish my commission.
Checked up on the status of my commission a fifth time on August 1st, 2011. Currently unread and unanswered.

I'm just irritated that it's taking 9 months to get my commission, especially when it looked almost finished in the second WIP. I'm obviously not going to get my art or my money, but I want to post a beware, and ask for some advice.

EDIT 1: Here's the photobucket album that includes to two WIPs.
EDIT 2: After posting this entry, the artist has contacted me.
Happy ash

Problems with commissioners

Hey all. I just need some advice on what to do with a commissioner.

I recently accepted a large canvas print commission for $150 (including the $70 canvas print and attachment cost and $10 shipping interstate). Now said commissioner was recently suspended from driving due to illegal driving on a learners licence, parking tickets he never paid etc. which put him onto a payment plan via the government. Each payment is approximately $135/mth apparently in total.

Now this is unexpected. I'm almost done with this commission and he's asked for his money back. Now being in my situation, living week to week on wages from my part time job with no savings - said commission money DID have to go to a large electricity bill a few nights ago (and I did explain this to him in a non-guilt way, to the best of my abilities, it is also in my TOS that I do need the money to help me get by currently) - but my problem is this:

He will not accept repayments in installations. He wants the full amount by 10th August. I tried to explain to him that this was physically impossible for me as I only earn $200-$250 a week and rent alone is $180 now (food, travel, other expenses on top of rent of course). Though he seems determined to get his full payment back. Now I have no options like credit cards, I don't want to pull the "I need commissions to pay this guy back" at all, and i'm bum out of ideas to get around this in a safe and secure manner without causing drama.

Though he says he has an excellent paying job, works 6 days a week, etc. I'm so confused.

What do I say? It was his money and the commission is about 75% completed! I've put about 6hrs into the artwork alone, and feel I could have now used that time better :/ What do I do?

EDIT: So after a very long and painful text 'war' with my commissioner/friend, he still wants a full refund AND NOW THE ARTWORK (due to not having a smartphone nor a cable capable of transferring them to the computer, it might take a while if anyone wants actual proof. Sorry guys ^_^; ). I'm not impressed in the slightest. I'm starting to think that he's conned his friends into this with him to get free art. As apparently someone saw him driving earlier this evening after I spoke to one of his close friends (who in coincidence I work with). So this seems a little... off? I'm going to find out more now, in all honesty if he's trying to pull the wool over my eyes he won't be seeing any of his money at all.
