a bit of warning when trying to help others

I REALLY hate doing this to anyone but here it goes.

I was trying to help an artist in need last year,Haku Husky or maneater as he's known now as, to go see his at the time mate Tora at MFF 07. Feeling kinda sorry for him I asked if he took commission and paid for enough commissions for him to get a plane ticket from his home state to Indiana and back again or about $320 worth of art. This included a fursona pic of myself, 2 for friends that didn't have any pics of there own, 4 other furs that were going to stay in the room, and a group pic as a momento of the con for everyone.

I had paid the money over the span of 2-3 months, during this time Haku and Tora got into a bit of a fight i'm not sure on the details but in the end they broke up before they even got to the con. Needless to say I only got one commission from him and that was for Palmer Husky and nothing more. I maintained Yahoo contact with Haku Husky, got one line setch for an idea for my fursona but in end Haku said was too depressed to draw anything. Never mind that Haku had been doing a few self pics and some free stuff to other friends of his during this same depressed time. By December 2007 i had little contact from him on YIM and by Jan of 08 it seemed like i was being ignored even though his YIM account was quite active during this time.

During a local fur meet in Mar of 08 i found that Haku had a FA account and to my surprise my full commission details was still on it. Work has got me bouncing all over the place so when things quieted down on May 1 2008 i sent him a FA comment on my commission information and just simply put "commission?", In the course of a week he deleted all his drawings from FA and removed all traces of my commission information from his account. On May 3 2008 I sent him a PM on FA and in a rather pissed off state and ask where was the commission that I paid for and why he was not contacting me about anything for them on YIM. His response "its been done for ages. Also, I haven't seen you in ages. I do appreciate you messaging me now, but I would have liked it if you did some time ago. :/ So there obviously was no way to give you heads up. Due to the fact that I never see you online and that I didn't know your FA till now XD" I had to point out to him that he could leave a IM on YIM it'll be saved as a offline message until the person log in his response "I also may have an IM account, but I am hardly online as well and never knew about this 'offline message' thing. "

After a few heated chats on FA pm he was finally on YIM for me to see him and offered to do my commission and pay back the money, which was already too little too late. seeing that he is a college student now living at home and not taking, as far as I know, any commission i doubt on his comment on paying me back.

after some more time he post some rather hastily done pics of me and Tora online but never informed me they were up. Palmer Husky copied haku's pics of my grey fox and was rather surprise at the lack of quality to it. I then got to see these pics because once again they were taken down after Tora commented that these were drawn rather hastily. I compared it to the the other drawings Haku had done and it did seem rather hastily and poorly draw to say the least.

At this time I have given up getting my money back and talking to this artist as it seem he doesn't care to update me or anyone one else i commission him to draw for. is his FA account just beware and as much as he like to talk about his issues don't bring any of yours up to him like i did when asking for a commission from him.

It's not often I have to post about someone, but I think the time has come.

On March 23rd, I was commissioned by Karl Kratt (hyenafur on FA) to create an image of two of his characters.  My standard policy is for the client to send payment after the sketch is finalized.

On March 27th, I sent him a low-res copy of the first sketch.  On the 29th, I sent him a finalized sketch. He approved, so I let him know that he could send payment, and I would begin coloring.

He had been thinking of having me do a second image as well, so I was going to combine the fees for both and give him a total. After several weeks of not hearing from him, I emailed him back, asking for a status report.  Because he was low on funds, he decided not to get the second image, and just pay for the first, which I agreed to.

It is now May 20th, and several times I have been told that 'bills ate all my money this month' when I have inquired about when I would be paid.

Now, this is a person that commissions a lot of artists, which I appreciate. And I've seen plenty of other artists upload images he has commissioned. Whether or not these pieces are art have been paid recently, MY time and effort has gone unpaid for.  I understand the importance of keeping your bills paid, but my art is a bill that needs to be paid as well.

This is a nice, polite guy, so while I don't want to dissuade anyone from doing business with him, I want to strongly caution anyone he contacts about commissioning to get the money up front.  Personally, I will most likely not do business with him again.

EDIT:  At this point, I have received payment from him via a third party, the art is finished, and the transaction is (finally) closed.
