Upset about Ravynwolf

A couple years ago, I believe it was 3 years now, A friend of mine, Ravynwolf, had a problem with one of her horses and needed $$ badly to help it out. I offered all I could afford, which was $300. I had a job at the time. In return all I wanted was for her to discount me on some miniature painting. We worked out this awesome werewolf chess set of minis produced by Rackham Confrontation. She painted minis and I was afraid to try. She said she'd definately do it for about $10-15 each mini, though I forget exactly. I agreed to this, so we came up with a total and I bought all of the necessary 32 minis (at $15-20 each mini) which I shipped out to her, all at my own expense. I then purchased for her a brand new $250 Citadel paint set so she'd have quality paints to use, with the paint set fee discounted from the price of the set I'd owe. I also agreed to paint up two Windstone griffins for her (pretty much for free since I normally charge over $150 each for them), and that I'd give her about $200-300 at the end of the project once done, and also sell some minis for her at MFF con and promote her getting new commissions.

Time passed, and I made allowances for time when she couldn't do them in time for the first MFF, and then the second. Marriages happened to both of us, and I suffered a mdeical issue that threatening my life, which I have since recovered from. But even so I have been hopeful that this year the chess set would be done and on display at MFF con. However, to this date only 1 minis was ever finished, and about 3 were "in progress." Emails hardly ever came my way when I'd try to send out requests for progress, and the last email came this past April, but nothing since. I emailed and also commented in her LJ so I'd know she got some contact from me.

I requested all of my minis back (because 1 she hasn't really done much with them, and 2 because by now I learned how to assemble and paint minis and want to do them myself) but got no response. No replies to any of my emails or LJ comments. I feel like I have lost all of my figures now. I can't afford to rebuy them since I have medicl bills that need paying. I was so hopeful this woud all work out since she was such a nice, cool person and did kick-ass work. I made so many attempts to try and contact her and get this project more in motion but there's just no response.

So I, HIGHLY RELUCTANTLY, post here. I don't want to badmouth any artist because I too am an artist and need $$ alot and a helping hand at time, with patience and extra time for commissions and things, but I have allowed years, and comprimises, and a decent sum of $$. I've very hurt by this. It was one of those things where while having a bad day I could think of the chess set and how awesome it will be, one of those running projects that gives you a lift to think about, and now it just hurts that I depended on somebody who hasn't fulfilled their end of things and I seem to have gotten stiffed yet again for something that meant to much to me.

So instead now of vastly promoting Ravynwolf and telling everyone to commission her for her awesome painting skills for minis, I'm instead saying rethink it. I hate to have to post here against somebody, but I made ample attempts at trying to get my minis back without any kind of luck.

I do too, but I just haven't heard anything. I know she's around and not on vacation because she makes new LJ posts, unless she's posting while away someplace...but it has been four months since the last time she contacted me when she said she was still going to work on the minis and showed me 3 in-progress ones...but nothing since to any questions or requests to return them.

And another thing too...I've asked how her horse was doing a couple times and she never answered that either.

That's a bit more suspect in my mind, if she ignored your question but still answered the email - i mean, you gave her money, you'd think she'd know you were actively interested in the horse's welfare.

Sometimes people really do disappear off the Internet and they may not be intentionally keeping silent. I had a friend of mine who I was really close to online for many years and she kinda just disappeared online-wise about a year or so and when I send her emails, I don't get one back. I keep hoping she's okay and thinking there has to be a reason why she can't get back to me, and I can easily think of a few that would make it impossible and/or low priority to get in touch with me.

I don't want to excuse your artist though, but I do think you shouldn't give up hope yet for getting them back. It's good to let people know about this but hopefully your stuff will resurface soon! *hugs*

Is this the same ravynwolf that moderates furoticxchange? Oh the stories I could tell, but that's all furry politics and drama and nothing to do with actually receiving or not receiving or paying or not paying for anything, so I won't. I can at least say that I'm definitely not surprised by the lack of communication, though.

I had no idea about the Furoticxchange but yes, Ravynwolf is the artist I mean. I haven't heard anything bad about her before.

Yeah...well, then. Let's just say I'm not a tremendous fan of hers either.

I can't help but think of how shitty it is, to accept $300 from you and not just do all the painting for free. Or say that the $300 was payment for the painting. I had a guy who collected $100-something for me whenever I was down on my luck. I didn't want the money, but it was generous of him, so I did something like 3 color pics in return.

Geez. I'm so sorry this happened to you. ;_;

A lot of artists usually charge around $20 per mini to paint, plus she'd also be assembling them, which takes a lot of time. At the time all I could do to prep the figures was file them to prepare for their assembly because shipping would break anything I put together suredly. So, we decided that she would also assemble as well as paint them. It would have been a whole lot of money so she discounted me, plus was going to subtract the paint set I bought her as well as the $300 for her horse. She really does excellent paint work...amazing really. I was just so happy to find somebody willing to do this for me. Now I'm just out a ton of expensive figures. I wrote to tell her I did submit to Artist Beware and that I was sorry to have felt pushed into doing this, but I haven't gotten a reply. I just want my figures back. I can't afford to rebuy them back with all the medical bills I got.

Sorry this happened to you, but it seems you're out more in the range of $600 if you also bought a $250 paint set for her to use on top of the $300 you sent, plus the cost of shipping. I'm glad you hadn't sent the additional $200-300 you mentioned, as it seems (to me) paying near $1,000 would be far too much for this.

I would recommend sending a link to this person and letting them know that, due to their lack of action or response, you had no other option then to post this message here. I would also suggest telling them that you will remove the post if she either completes the figures or sends them back (your choice on which you want, not hers.) I did something along these lines and my issue with the artist was resolved. Another issue you may not have considered is that she no longer owns the figures, either from selling or losing them, and that she may need to refund the value of them to you.

With as small as the furry community is, the last thing an artist wants is people knowing you are 3 years incompetent and incapable of providing people with what they pay for.

Yes, I'm definately out a lot more than just the figures, and the money issue for this whole thing really stings. I DID contact her via LJ to tell her I did have to post here but there hasn't been any kind of response to that. I didn't condeir she might not have the figures though, so I will send out another email asking that is she lost them or something, to get back the value of them.

Unfortunately though I think this whole issue is just dead. She hasn't said a word about it or replied to anything.

Well, nothing new has happened since I post this message at all. Not a work of response.
