Suggestions?

Alright, I don't know if I'm doing the right thing or not, but I wanted to put RedwoodTiger (See: Redwood on FA ) up here on artists beware. I've tried numerous times to get in touch with Redwood over art he owes me and he has blocked me as of today.

I ended up paying him $60 back in March 2006 and bought him a pair of headphones(Motorola HT-820) that costed $72.xx that were on sale about a month later with an agreement that he would be willing to barter art for it instead. I really would of loved to handle this in private as he's not the only artist I am working with that's late on getting commissions done. ((I've got one artist I've commissioned that took two years, but he at least showed signs of good faith by getting bits and pieces of it done.)) But at this point, I feel he's closed the last opportunity for keeping his name clean.

Is it right to now demand $100 back for it? I know it's not the 132.xx he owes me, but I figure there was item depreciation and such involved with the headphones. I don't really feel comfortable having him finish the commissions with some of the things he's stated to others about what I have paid for. I know I've got eclectic tastes, but, I just don't want the world to know with editorial comments about what my tastes are.

Their FA gallery is empty -- maybe you're not the only one they're avoiding...

It really doesn't matter what your tastes are, that shouldn't prevent you from getting a refund. It's hardly professional for him to tell the world about what you like. Also, I think you're entitled to ask for the full amount you paid for; yes, items depreciate, but it's not your fault you've been waiting over a year for art/refund.

So when was the last time he contacted you? Did he give any reason for his lateness?

I never asked him why he never completed my commissions, never really thought to. I'm more curious to if it will get completed instead of wondering why it never got finished.

I know I have a bit of trouble finishing commissions at times, but I always refund if it's been about two weeks to a month at the payer's discretion.

Back to Redwood however, I did get ahold of him and well, he's going to mail me the stick of ram back and claims he will only pay $50 back. I'm trying not to be too petty, but there's nothing more I can do in regards to getting my issue with him resolved behind me. His gallery has been recently emptied out it looks, so I'm going to just make a guess that I'm not the only one that's lost money to him at this point.

When you finance a car for a certain price, you pay back that amount, even if the car is only worth like $100 by the time you make your final payment. Why are you depreciating the headphones? He got them new, right?

You paid $132 for a commission, you should get $132 back unless he's already made a sketch or something in which case you should get $132 minus the cost of a sketch back and the sketch.

I doubt it's your taste he's complaining about, if it was he would have just asked for a different subject matter like a professional would.

It was my taste. I had made it adamantly clear that I would want him to draw female taurs. Being a gay artist and all I was making him do the impossible. He had sketched up a little through a trade we had going(which was my way of seeing if he'd be willing to work on what I enjoyed.) and then offered more through purchasing items locally while out shopping with him and giving him cash.

I learned about his feelings through my ex GF whom moved in with him and recently befriended me again. I've commissioned a lot of people but there's only three people I no longer feel comfortable commissioning anymore. For one, there's a series of commissions I paid Cownugget for a while ago located at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/69014/ ((Be careful, your eyes will bleed!)) and since he has a strong interest in vore, I had made a suggestion for something I'm pretty neutral on. To shorten this, his commentary on the series has me not in the most upbeat mood about commissioning him again. It is legitimately his feelings on the art, but I just don't need to be reminded that I am strange deep inside. :3

I just simply don't want to give money to someone who calls my commission "Really fucking strange." And if I've paid them, I'd prefer to get a refund if there was no intention of finishing up the request to begin with. It's been longer than a year and no progress has been made.

If he can't do the illustration because OMGWOMENAREICKYANDITOTALLYWANNAHUMPTIGERWOLFTARD! then he shouldn't have accepted ANY form of payment.

Not only do you have every right to demand the entire sum in return, you have the right to tell him you have proof that he owes you art and never delivered, and threaten to sue him. That you're even putting him up here on beware does damage to his name, so hopefully he'll decide it's better to be honest and either give you the art he owes you or the money he took.

Come to think of it. I should have my bank statements and should be able to track back which purchase was when.
