1) [of a gay sex commission] "I don't want to infringe on your creativity, but feel free to make the characters as young as ten."

2) [of his story, which prints out at 11 pages, single spaced, Arial 11 font, with fight scenes, chase scenes, a meaningless dance sequence, etc., being turned into a comic] "I want it done in ten pages. Why can't you do it in ten pages?"

3) [of her four page fanzine story] "I'd like one illustration for every third paragraph."

4) [of my refusal to do his man/boy requests] "You weren't squicked by it! You were just bored!"

5) [of OBVIOUS Sega-Genesis characters] "No, they're my characters. I have proof from other artists."

6) [of unpaid fanzine art] "Do it over. You can do better and we want our book to be high quality."

7) [of his desire to pay only $20] "Can you do three pieces of less quality, instead of one?"

8) [a young artist I was mentoring] "I wish you would stop doing furry art. It makes me uncomfortable when people see your work next to mine."

9) [after compelling me to do six different drafts of a character, then publishing instead a primitive line drawing by another artist] "Well she's not as good as you."

10) [three months late on a trade] "Yeah I know I promised you a story, and I'm going to do it! Can you do five more illos for my website?"

Wheeee....

(Man, I'm SO glad I decided to not try and make a living doing 2-D furry art. I don't think I could cope.)

Although all of the comments are insulting. This one really ticks me off.

The answer to which is, "Only because it's still better than yours."

I'm sick of hearing furry be crapped on. It makes me want to draw nude furs just so at least I can shut up the pervy ones.

I've actually never had my drawing animals/furries/whatever be a problem. But then the people that look at my art are either furrs themselves, or aren't and don't even know what furry is XD.

((well, I do have many people that aren't furr, know what it is, and don't care, but those kinds of people seem to be rather rare in the world))

2) It's quite possible to fit an 11-page story into 10 pages, if you do it as an illustrated book style (ala the old Prince Valiant strips) and edit the text to fit. Wether it's what she WANTS is another thing altogether.

3) "Sure, pay me my standard rate per illo."

6)& 7) "You get what you pay for."

8) "Go find a non-furry artist then."

9) Hopefully you were pre-paid.

10) "Story first, then pictures."

Actually HE was a furry artist. He had issues with the fact that he wasn't as accomplished as I was at the time. Of course, I would later realize he also had problems with telling the truth, accepting responsibility, and people who did not belong to his racial group.

I thought I'd add a few to this fantastic repertoire of hilarious unchecked rage, and vengence shall be wrought. (For those of us who make costumes, anyways)

"I need a high quality fursuit, preferably with as many markings as possible, comforatable with a cooling system installed, I need it in two weeks. I can only spend four hundred dollars. Is that ok?"

"So, I have this high quality fur you can use instead of ordering it, will that cut costs?" [I agree, three months later, I see this in my inbox] "What the F***? This fur you used sucks, I want a refund"

"Do you put yiff-holes in them?" [This is my face at this exact moment in time: -> 8-O!!!!!!!!!, after hearing my answer] "Why not? Thats bad business"!!

Speaking of which..
[At being presented with a costume body at a con]"I, uh, yea.. the crotch just fell apart! No! I didn't do anything to it! Fix it!" [Apoun further inspection, I found a large, round missing piece from the crotch, and it was rather, er.. crusty.]

Am I a bad person for refusing business to these people in the future, or for not attending to their needs? Well, if I cared about that answer, I woul probobly listen, but as it stands, I won't ;)

But I agree with Onikisu on your ails, man: At least the kid was honest with you, and he told you straight out. Good for him!

... *shrug* because generally, furry art is fucking icky. The stuff that people see in general freak them out. People may start thinking that said person is a furry. I hate it when people do that to me, especially after I quit drawing furry art. -_-' Honestly, don't see anything wrong with that one. ><

A couple of my own squiky happenstances in the very early years of becoming a furry artist.

1) (her reaction to a commission piece after she had approved of the sketch and given me consent to slap on the inks and colors) - 'It's nothing like I asked for. The expressions are all wrong, the poses are awkward, the colors aren't right, her face is too wide, etc etc.

2) (his reply when I refused to illustrate his human wife being 'pleased' by a Saint Bernard) 'Well, what if she was anthro - would that help change your mind?

3) (his suggestion on how I could improve in my depictions of male anatomy) - 'I can send you phots of myself at different stages of arousal to help you capture what a phallus looks like at those points'.

All folks that I refuse to do business with again. It's because of these folks that my restrictions list had grown.

So he infringes on your sensibilities instead? O_o

4) [of my refusal to do his man/boy requests] "You weren't squicked by it! You were just bored!"

Yeah, who could possibly be squicked by child rape and not want to spend hours on creating a depiction of it. Unthinkable!

I recall an artist who charged $20 for a sketch. The payee claimed only to have $15 and was very persistant that this should be sufficient for a "quick sketch." So the artist relented, and was given a great long list of requirements.

When the payee returned for his sketch, he found it quite detailed -- except for a large blank white area over where the character's Naughties ought to be. The artist merely explained, "If you pay 3/4 the price, you get 3/4 of the sketch."

I understand that the remaining $5 mysteriously materialized.
