UPDATE: Artists Beware Closing Date

Howdy guys!

The time has come to say "Goodbye" to Artists Beware on LiveJournal. When Cel opened the website for people to look at you all jumped in with gusto using it! This is great!

Artists Beware will be turning off on LJ on January 31st, 2019.

What does this mean for you? It means that you should get over to artistsbeware.info asap to sign up to the new site if you have not already. Entries here will be locked for commenting, we won't be accepting submissions, etc. Full shut down.

We will NOT be deleting the community, nor the DreamWidth mirror; it'll stand here as additional reference because while we are archiving a large majority of the comm to the website; not everything is making the transition over.

Onward and upward, upward and onward!

a drawing of a cartoonish alpaca waving at the screen with one hand and a suitcase in the other hand, saying 'onward to the new site!'

Artist's beware has moved!
Do NOT repost your old bewares. They are being archived.

I think the only thing that worries me is that this live journal community & the DreamWidth mirror will start to be ignored and the old bewares that made people treat artists with caution (even those marked as resolved) will not get that warning as easily and thus people start to get tricked by those artists again, if their bewares aren't transitioned over.

Which brings me onto a question; how far back are the transitions going?

We are archiving every valid beware, and there is a separate section for archives on the site. :) Tags from the archives will still appear in thr search results.

Well that was going to occur when we moved regardless in a sense. And Google picks up quite a few of these LiveJournal posts so in a way they're not going to die unless those who have bewares trump the rankings system for Google.

We're going back as far as we need to that follows the current template or is a big time beware. The further back you go the more we saw really wacky posts that older staff (me included we perfected our submissions guidelines, still are really) accepted and they don't have a place in the new site.

The closer to 2018 we get the more posts from LJ will be ported over as these are better written, etc.

Thank you, for the response.

Would it help if I offered to resubmit the beware I posted here: https://artists-beware.livejournal.com/968610.html
onto the site myself or would it be best to leave that to the staff, to determine if you'd like to keep it or not?

I only ask, because I plan to delete my Live Journal account once you guys have finished with the move and I'm unsure what that might do to the Beware I'd submitted.

Please don't resubmit. We have to sift through posts by hand, and it would be a lot easier on us if users left their accounts and posts alone until archiving is done or their specific post is archived. Right now it's slow moving because the older bewares require a lot of scrutiny, but it should move faster once we hit from 2015 and on.

Noted. Good luck with tackling them. I don't envy you.

Just popping in and trying to remember my livejournal account in because, that artwork is ADORABLE. What a lovely way to do a send off for here.

AB is literally the last active feed on my Livejournal, this happening feels like the end of an era.

See you on the new site :)

I tried for about 20 minutes to register an account and nothing would happen when I was hitting the register button after filling out the info--username, password, email, etc. No error messages were coming up.

It FINALLY let me register by linking my Twitter account instead, which I really didn't want to do.

I'll miss this place.

I can't register an account there, when I try to create an account and enter all needed information I get to a site that states:
" Sorry, there is a problem
You are not permitted to register a user account with this site.

Error code: 2S129/1 "

Please email me with the information you're trying to register as to celestinaketzia @ gmail.com so I can forward it to our web admin.

Edit: upon investigation either the IP address you're registering under or the email address has been flagged as spam by IPS. Please still email me, because i will have to set up your account manually.
