WHO: BigDeadAlive

WHERE: Transaction took place via paypal and was discussed via email, artists's twitter is @BigDeadAlive

WHAT: Digital art

WHEN: Payment sent April 14th, 2018. Current date September 1st, 2018

EXPLAIN: First contacted on April 12th. Commission was agreed upon and paid for on the 14th

Over the next few weeks I wait patiently, sporadically requesting updates on my commission, all of which go ignored.

On June 19th, artist tweets that everyone with an outstanding commission has been contacted via Email. I was not. Artist also mentions to DM them on twitter regarding commissions. I send a dm, which goes ignored. 10 days later, I send an email politely explaining my growing frustration. It is ignored.

On july 2nd, I publicly tweet at the artist, along with an identical post on Tumblr. I voice my frustration regarding that lack of any communication, and threaten a refund. (https://i.imgur.com/TMHJEBD.png)

This gets their attention, and they FINALLY contact me. However, all they do is give me a flaccid "Soon."

On July 5th, the "Soon" become s"the next couple of days." I am incredibly excited, but it's all for naught, as the work never gets done. Over a week later, they say they will "Get to it soon" and resume their usual silence. Have not heard from them to date, and despite no work being done on my commission, the artist continues to take other commissions.

You're coming up on your Paypal time limit, so I would submit a dispute and escalate it to a claim now before you lose your money. If you're still interested in the art, then you can send them payment after it's completed.

Artist has contacted me (via tumblr DM this time) saying work will be done within the week. We'll see how it goes, but I'm not hopeful. If they don't meet this self-imposed deadline, I'm refunding util the work is received.

Re: update
If the artist does not complete the art, please make sure that you open that dispute - if they give you a WIP and says they will complete later and the deadline for a dispute passes, you may not receive the final, finished piece. You can always send him a portion for the work done once you have received your refund, but it's not unheard of for artists to produce evidence of work on a commission as a "buying time" exercise to run out the dispute deadlines.

Not saying that is what this artist is trying to do, just making you aware that it's a potential tactic that you need to be aware of. I hope that it doesn't come to this and you get the art you have paid for.

I've received linework just a few minutes ago. I'm not calling this resolved JUST yet, but it's getting close.

Artist delivered final work. All is well in the world. (Technically he forgot to add my character's freckles. He's promised to fix that oversight, but it's such a small detail that I won't be TOO upset if he never does)

Re: resolved
Thank you for the update. I've added the 'resolved' tag to your post.
