Beware: Ryunwoofie

WHO:
Ryunwoofie (Artist)

WHERE:
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/ryunwoofie/

WHAT: Two and a half colored sketch pieces
#1) Two-character colored sketch with extra details
#2) My half of a two-character colored sketch piece with extra details (the other commissioner paid the other half as we were splitting the cost of this one)
#3) One-character colored sketch.

WHEN:
#1) August 15, 2016 ($125.00 USD)
#2) September 4, 2016 ($62.50 USD)
#3) October 1, 2016 ($70.00 USD, $50.00 USD still owed)

EXPLAIN:
Ryunwoofie is an artist who, in 2016, had been active in taking stream commissions. I was cozied up to the idea of commissioning her and, fearing that I would rarely if ever make her streams, hoped that she would take some commissions "off-stream" someday. At the time my only contact with her was on FurAffinity.

On August 15th 2016 she agreed to take a commission "off-stream" not too long after discussing the details of it (I had given them to her again at her request at the time of acceptance) and paid the quoted amount in full and upfront to her specifications and satisfaction.

A month went by and I was being understanding on the delays, keeping in constant contact with Ryunwoofie, when she hosted a stream on September 4, 2016 that I was able to attend. When I was in this stream a friend and I decided we'd split the cost of another commission with Ryunwoofie, who wasn't able to do the artwork in the stream that night but agreed to do it off-stream. Each of us paid our half upfront after we all agreed on the details in private communications in the stream. There was follow-up discussion about that image, which is linked below.
https://sta.sh/0j6ics96947

When October 1 came around without any updates or progress shown on the two pieces so far, Ryunwoofie opened up for one off-stream commission again and I was able to take the open slot. After discussing the details she quoted the price and I paid her upfront and in full. By November 30 there was still no progress despite previous claims that the artwork would be finished within two weeks or so, with ongoing explanations as to what was causing the delay. Due to the lack of progress and giving in to different ideas, we discussed alternate content for the third sketch and also agreed to switch from FA notes to email.

Delays and issues continued up through February 2017, with no progress of any kind rendered. During a stream on February 11, 2017 I discussed making an up-front payment and drawing from some of the "credit" I accumulated with her to commission an idea I previously downgraded. She agreed, and while she didn't finish the art in that stream she did finish it a few days later. However, I was still waiting on the other three pieces we had agreed upon via email.

Up to this point the emails were largely filled with patience about getting the art, up until April 24th, 2017 when Ryunwoofie appeared on Artists Beware. Realizing then and there that I may never get the other pieces of art, I contacted her on May 17th, 2017 (one other email went completely ignored mid-April) to see if I would be able to get the artwork by the end of the month, or failing that a refund. She agreed, though had nothing to show for it come June 1, 2017. On that date I follow up again and she agreed to do a refund by June 16th, either half on the 9th and half on the 16th or everything on the 16th. I asked her to keep me in the loop if there is any difficulty on this, to which she agreed. However, no communication has been received since then and my last email, dated July 7, went unanswered.

Unfortunately for me, due to the time that has passed I am not able to dispute the transactions through my bank (which issued the credit card I paid for the sketch pieces on) or PayPal (who processed the transactions for the pieces), which leaves this as one of my few final options for seeking a positive resolution or otherwise warning commissioners that working with Ryunwoofie may result in not getting artwork.

Honestly, good luck on getting a full refund from Ryun. This is, so far, the 4th beware about her on here.

I've noticed that whenever Ryun sees that any of her commissioners made an AB post about her, she'll immediately issue refunds to them and apologizes to them.

:( Another one? I hope she gets herself together.

I truly hope Ryun is able to get her act together.

While it is commendable that she refunds people, the fact that she ignores her customers until they beware her is kind of sad.

I think she should stop making promises she can't keep, make an effort to get organized, and stop spending money before she does the work.

I have a friend who she owes work from over a year ago, who doesn't feel comfortable posting a beware on. Good luck getting what you're owed from her. she doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Your beware is definitely well warranted and no offense I don't want to play devil's advocate here but I just can't seem to understand why you kept commissioning her without the previous piece(s) being finished. Next time, my advice would be to wait until the artist has finished the previous work(s) so that you don't risk having something like this happen again and losing even more money.

But I am sorry that this is all going on and I hope that you can come to a resolution and get the money and/or work that you're owed <3

It's a fair question! The pieces I commissioned, compared to the usual fare, were more challenging and it was understandable if she needed more time. There were also additional on-stream commissions that she completed for me, which I didn't mention here, that boosted my confidence in her ability to deliver.

The only reason it came to a Beware is the lack of any progress--no WIPs or anything--which would have at least said "I've been working on it." I've definitely learned my lesson going forward, though.

Unfortunately, it isn't that unusual that some will only react if threatened with a beware and/or lawsuit. This isn't exclusive to artists only. :/

OP, you may want to try contacting her on her Twitter. She's been gushing about TV shows and posting silly pics of bedtime snacks she made. >< https://twitter.com/Ryunwoofie She appears to be active there.

I hope you will be able to get this resolved, but the impression I get with Ryun is, she's started ignoring her customers. There is a guy on her FA account asking if she forgot about him and she made a journal where she admitted that she is ignoring people because her anxiety and depression over her situation make her not want to deal with the situation. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8262506/

"On top of that my anxiety has gotten the better of me and made me neglect FA and Twitter entirely and I again apologize. I was too scared to read notes and report that still not much has been done on my end."

On top of that my anxiety has gotten the better of me and made me neglect FA and Twitter entirely and I again apologize. I was too scared to read notes and report that still not much has been done on my end.

So that makes sense why Ryun's ignoring her commissioners that paid her. In all honesty, though, there's simply no reason for her to neglect her FA and Twitter, much less avoiding her commissioners, just because of her anxiety.

Seems like she's deleted the journal that shows her complete backlog and queue in favour of a "live update" trello that doesn't show who's on her queue at all, just what shes working on currently.

It's still there http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2116126/

Though it is alarming to see she owes over 100 images.

OP, I hope you can get this resolved. Any word from her?

She recently reopened for commissions again =/ She states it is a normal commission stream and not a backlog stream for past clients. I don't think it's cool she is taking on new work and adding to her queue.

As a cheerleader for her and a friend it's really upsetting to see this A_B go unnoticed by her, since the ones in the past were commented on and resolved so quickly. She said she was going to do refund streams but I guess not. If OP sees this, try contacting her through Twitter, she's always on there.

I just got a new update from Ryun after poking her on Twitter: the ETA is probably early next week (Aug 6-10 maybe?), which seems contingent on how many streams she's able to do to accommodate her own costs.

Long and short: there's some light at the end of the tunnel that hopefully comes to pass, and the artist is aware that she's been Beware'd (if not earlier then definitely now). Until I can happily report that the refund has gone through, though, the Beware stands.

She popped back up, double-checked with me about the amount she owed and what my PayPal was, and after I gave both to her she said she'd probably have something to me this week.

As of this post, I have not heard anything else or received anything.

Sep 12 Update
Yet another update: after posting a FA journal citing anxiety, her kid, and Irma as reasons she's gone quiet again there still hasn't been any word on when the refund is coming in. Her recent streams appear to be either Old Owed Work or Rent Crunches, which aren't encouraging.

Nov 10 Update
Two months since the last update:

I'm apparently on her refund list, but no ETA on when a refund is coming. A previous ETA of September 16 came and went without anything, and she's been taking in-streams to pay off bills but not enough to work on refunds.

The only thing I can do at this point is hope she gets herself in a position to honor her agreements, which she presently doesn't seem to be in.

Re: Nov 10 Update
Sorry to hear it hasn't been resolved. She just opened commissions again on FA and has been clearing shouts from concerned customers off her page.
