WHERE: Originally occured on WHF (Wolfhome forums), but contact eventually had to be moved to their DA since they'd been banned.

WHAT: Two minis (a type of commission of mine), and an adopt they purchased.

WHEN: Minis were ordered Dec. 3rd, and finished Dec. 6th, adopt was purchased Dec. 7th.

EXPLAIN:

They first messaged me on-forum asking for two minis which I happily agreed to, they sent refs and payment and I finished the commission three days later. They seemed very satisfied with the commission, and never asked for any changes to be made or showed any dissatisfaction with the work, I thanked them for commissioning me, life went on. They posted in a thread of mine some days later asking to buy an adopt for an off-site friend of theirs, I said that'd be fine, and they promptly sent the payment with a note attached.

Things were great until come January 27th I woke up to two chargebacks issued by them under the reason of "unauthorized payment." I immediately messaged them on-forum to ask why they'd issued the chargebacks, to which they simply responded it was their bank and that it'd be resolved within 48hrs. I said alright, and asked to be kept updated. I was going to wait until Friday (exactly two days later) before I messaged them again but decided to give them until Monday, just in case. In those days, nothing changed and I heard no news from them.

I messaged them on Feb. 1st asking for an update since nothing had been solved, and the message is still sitting in my unread folder. I found out a little later they'd been banned from the forum, so I moved to their DA to keep in contact and sent the same message to them there, asking for an update to see if they'd heard anything from their bank. The message had been read but wasn't responded to. I sent them another two days later warning them if they proceeded to ignore my messages that I'd have no choice but to assume everything was intentional and make an A_B on them, but that I didn't want to and would much rather try and work things out between each other if they'd just let me know what was going on.

The message sat unread for three days before I sent another, but having checked on their account, they'd logged in since it had been sent. I sent them one final message two days ago, hoping that maybe if I was blunt and they saw the "A_B" warning in the first sentence before DA cuts off the text and you have to click on it to read more, they might want to finally talk to me.

They didn't, I guess. The message is still unread, but they've logged on since.

As of 2/9/2016, the chargeback issue hasn't been resolved and I've heard nothing further from them.

The same day I posted this (2/9/2016) later in the day, the chargebacks disappeared. Shortly after I was negative $40 for the chargeback fee, $20 per chargeback. The dispute had ended in their favor. I contacted paypal and let them know what was going on to try and, at the very least, reverse the $40 charge. They did do it once I explained that the person even said that it was their bank/accidental.

They encouraged me to send them all the proof I have, but that it could take up to 80 days to be resolved. The good thing is, it sounded hopeful that this time it'll end in my favor. The bad thing is, of course, I have to wait awhile.

Something similar happened to me. You might be able to contest it.

Someone bought something of mine on furbuy, then later reported to paypal as it being an unauthorized purchase. I contested it by giving paypal several links and email communication proving the user wanted to and had bought the product intentionally.

I won and got my money back.

See if you can do the same.

This, least with Pay Pal you can prove what was bought was their consent and was given. Could even use the screenshot of him admitting it is a "bank error"

The first time I disputed against them, I submitted almost all (if not all) of the same proof I have here. For whatever reason, it still was closed in their favor, plus the additional 40$ chargeback fee, 20$ per chargeback.

I contacted paypal over the phone about it, and got someone who was willing to listen, and thankfully understand. They agreed that it made no sense that it had ended in their favor when the person themselves had said it was their bank/not on purpose.

They reversed the 40$ charge, but said it could take up to 80 days to resolve the issue. It sounded hopeful that it'll end in my favor, but it could very well take awhile before I get it back.

A red flag would of shot up as soon as I read they were banned from the forum.
It is a shame you cannot provide evidence to his bank you gave what he paid for and he just cheated you out of your work & time.

Hope others learn of him to not get scammed, I hate people who abuse chargebacks like that. Wonder how long until he moves accounts and tries it again under a new name.

Yeah it definitely made me uneasy when I'd heard that they'd been banned. I wasn't extremely hopeful that things were going to work out then, but I wanted to at least try and see if they'd work with me.

It is a shame. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he has another DA account, and I have absolutely no idea if he has an FA/any other art gallery.

If he does I am sure he will be quickly found, either by similar characters or friends. Others who have done this have been quickly caught out and added to beware lists

Best of luck with Paypal, often enough they are better over the phone

i had a feeling i wasn't the only one.
this user won one of my character auctions in december and i received a chargeback on january 26th, but didn't notice until a few days later. i just accepted liability and included in my paypal note that i would be taking back the character, mostly because i didn't want the headache of trying to track them down and fight with paypal over this. i noted them on FA last night reiterating what i said in my paypal note and asking them to take down the character from their deviantart, but as expected the note is unread, so maybe i'll try contacting them on DA.

i think i made a mistake by not contacting them as soon as i noticed the chargeback, but if they were aware of the apparent bank error it would have been considerate of them to at least contact the people it affected and give them some sort of explanation.

i'm sorry this happened to you too, i hope this gets resolved soon and in your favor!

Yeah when I heard they got banned, I kind of thought they might've been banned for similar reasons. Of course I couldn't ask the mods, but. Even the friends that I'd talked with about it agreed that it seemed really suspicious.

I don't know, they seem really unresponsive right now. My guess is, no matter where you contact them, they won't likely respond. If you do, best of luck though! They seem to be content not answering any notes or even reading them.

And that was exactly my reaction. If it was truly and honestly something that happened with their bank, why wouldn't they contact the people involved and let them know what was going on? Why would they wait until they had to be confronted to say anything? That by itself just didn't sit well with me.

But ditto, I'm sorry that you had to put up with this too!

all of their accounts seem to have gone inactive right around the time the chargebacks were filed, so that and the fact that they've more or less avoided contact is a red flag for me, especially since i've had this happen to me before.

same thing happened to me with this person. they bought a flat colour commission in october last year. they even commented saying they loved it once it was done, weird thing was instead of using their own FA, they used a friends FA to contact me for the commission. everything was fine until the start of feb when the chargeback happened. they responded with the same 'it was my bank not me' comment and since then have not replied ot emails and the note i originally sent on 6th Feb to their DA (after finding it via googling their email) is still unread even now.
Paypal also found in favour of them and took £36 from me because 'intangiable items' are not covered by their seller protection.

I haven to idea how to even fight this or appeal. I am Masahikoko on FA

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that this has happened to so many people. My only advice would be to call paypal, and try and work it out over the phone? You could mention the fact that they even said that it was "their bank" and not on purpose? When I mentioned that to them, they at least reversed the chargeback fee and opened the original chargeback again - though it might take up to 80 days to get it resolved.

yeah i contacted paypal and they told me "The chargeback case will reflect as closed within the Resolution Center of your PayPal account while we await the credit card issuer's response." but although i brought up reversing the paypal fee, they didn't even mention that in their reply (it was via the message center). So I've asked about that again and i'm waiting for their reply now.

but yeah the stuff i've heard from others affected by this person is... just disgusting tbh.

this wasn't over the phone was it? the only reason I ask is because they seem to be more understanding over the phone. I'm not sure why, but they seem more willing to listen. But if you can't contact them over the phone, try attaching the proof (a screenshot of them saying it was their "bank") and anything else you might have to help your case!

definitely good luck, I hope they listen to you this time. And yeah.. I don't really get why people do this type of thing, I really don't.

i included that proof initially and re-sent it recently and they just said 'we can't add any evidence to the case once it's been sent to the card issuer.' (which it wasnt any new info it was literally the same info just to remind them) this was over the paypal message center. and when i asked about getting the paypal fee for chargebacks reversed they just said 'we can't do that' although i mentioned i know at least two people who they HAVE done that for. tbh i'm just too tired of paypal never listening to fight it out with them.

This user is affecting more than just the posters that are already here. I can attest to 4 or more users from Wolfhome, Wolfhome Forums (WHF) by word of mouth, one of them being my girlfriend and actually seeing her 3 chargebacks from PayPal.

Shakespeare refuses to talk to anybody about it and constantly ignores the issue.

They have also made a new DA account, here. Note the similarity in the art and writing styles.

Wow, I could've never imagined so many other people were having this issue w/ Shakespeare. I had a feeling I wasn't alone, but how many people have since come forth saying they've had the same problem with them is .. incredible in the worst kind of way.

I figured this would happen. I'm glad you found this account, thank you!
