Artist's Beware Report Template

3/5/2016 EDIT: Due to a stack of instances where these things occurred in submitted posts, if you submit the following it is going to result in automatic rejection from the queue:
-*rip/*rar files or videos
-Call out bewares that are not transaction related
-Inserting proxy details to 'pad' your beware [Article 6 of Posting Guidelines]

7/1/2014 EDIT: Per kayla_la's mod post; all screencaps must have LEGAL NAMES/EMAILS & PAYPAL ADDRESSES CENSORED. Exceptions to the rule are at the sole discretion of artists_beware staff only.

8/23/2011 EDIT: To be fair and considerate to all who use this comm; if you intend to post to Artists_Beware, please be prepared to come in and edit your entry after approval, in the event there is need of an LJ-Cut, clarification or more. Also to answer any questions and requests the community at large may have for you.

Happy March everyone!

To start the month off, aside from the soon to come Positive Reviews post, here is the final completed reports template for the community, modified to wrap best around our ideas and your suggestions.

So from today forward, the mods strongly encourage you to follow this template when submitting a beware for approval.

This is the Artist's Beware Situation Report template. This template is here to assist you in getting your beware written out in a clear and fluid manner, get it approved in a much speedier fashion, and get your answers and advice to you faster than before! But before we begin, please take note of the following:

- Due to the potential lengthy nature of these forms/posts, please be prepared to insert an 'LJ-cut' into your post if you will be providing more than 3 links and/or the overall word count is over 1000.

For those who are visually impared and use
the HTML mode on LiveJournal:

Above the bulk of your text type the following as you see it::

text="Read more">

At the bottom of your post type the following as you
see it:

For those who are visually impared and use
the RICH TEXT mode on LiveJournal:

the bulk of your text and hit the 'LJ Cut' button, 12th from the left
which looks like a piece of paper with a tear in it.

You will be prompted to add additional text, but this is optional. Do not cancel out of this prompt,
click OKAY.

- Screencaps (images taken of what is on your screen), are strongly suggested to be included into your post (they will be addressed in the template for the best place to include them). They are a big plus to your case, and can often answer any questions a community member might have for you.

- In a case of a multi-item beware regarding a single artist, please clearly list each article and their issues separately within each category of the post.

- This form is allowed to be changed/modified to fit your individual situation (i.e: trades rather than commissions). So if the field does not apply, you need not fill it out. That said, this template is for bewares, questions or advice posts need not follow this pattern.

If you have been posted about to this community, feel free to modify this template as needed if you would like a guideline in how to provide proof of your side of the situation.

Disclaimer: Even with use of the template, approval is still at the sole discretion of the moderators of artists_beware.

WHO: List the aliases or business name of the person (Artist or Customer) this post is regarding. Which ever applies. Please note that any use of a legal full name must omitted it from your report (this goes for screencaps as well).

WHERE: URL where they base their business out of. In case your beware is regarding something that occurred at an event (example: a con), you may list that too.

WHAT: Was it traditional art, digital art, sculpture, fursuit, jewelry, etc.? Were there multiple parts to this transaction? Here would be a good place to put any screencaps of conversation (emails/names/addresses that are appropriately blurred, PMs/Notes, IM logs, etc.). By conversation we mean the details hashed out between you and the Artist/Customer for said order(s).

WHEN: A rough time line of the situation from initial conversation, to 1st payment (or agreement of trade) to signs of trouble.

PROOF: State or place any screencaps of either Agreement (Notes, IMs, Shouts, Paypal screencaps with sensitive details appropriately blurred, Money Order receipts, etc.). Note the proof of agreement includes trade as well.

EXPLAIN: Tell your side here. What happened, what went wrong, where did it go wrong, have you attempted to fix the issue(s), ask for updates, refunds/legal warnings, etc. Post any additional screencaps here that correspond with your explanation. Be as clear, concise, and to the point (no additional drama, no third parties/proxy writing) as possible, without use of insults and slurs, please.

How do you submit something like this for approval? like..where do you send it to?
May. 25th, 2011 07:53 pm (UTC)
Its basically writing up an LJ post, but in the spot where it says Post to: (below Post as:, at the very top of the Post an Entry page), there is a drop down menu where you can choose what community to post into. Choose artists beware and then what you 'post' will go to us for approval.

Just out of curiosity, is there a specific form or template that's to be used to give positive feedback on an artist?

Hi! Here is this month's positive review post: http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/517886.html

Re: What if
We cannot accept bewares without valid proof. We suggest that users screencap relevant transaction information in case of a deletion from either party.

However, since this comment contains names as well as a question, I'm screening it. You may PM any of the mods if you have questions with specifics in mind.

Client Review
I recently worked with a client that was less than pleasant in the end--is there a review form for the artist to review clientele?

Re: Client Review
Filing a beware on a client works the same way as described in the post. If you need examples, click on any of the comm-*name* tags.

"Please note that if the artist or client does not use their legal full name in their business dealings, you must omit it from your report (this goes for screencaps as well)."

So if they do not use their full name then we omit it from the report? Don't you mean if they DO use their full name, you must omit it from the report?
Mar. 30th, 2015 08:18 pm (UTC)
No, if they do not use their full names you may not use it in A_B. For instance if my handle was my legal name and I approached you as Celestina Ketzia, then you may use my name Celestina Ketzia in the beware. However, if I went by another name and you found out my name was Celestina Ketzia from the Paypal invoice, you may NOT use it.
Jun. 4th, 2015 06:14 am (UTC)
I'm rather new here so I'm unsure of this, but when making a post asking for advice, do you tag in the tag box under the LJ post before submitting to A-B? Also, is there any sort of template for commissioners or artists asking for advice?
Jun. 4th, 2015 06:23 am (UTC)
A Mod Answers!
Tagging isn't available to people posting to A_B. Moderator's do all the tagging FOR you guys so that way things get put where they belong.

As for advice posts, no we do not have a set template for that, as advice is more general and not as detail specific as a beware needs to be for the most part.

Just check out our advice for artists and advice for commissioners tags to see.

quick question as i prepare my post. the person who commissioned me that i'm warning about, they used someone elses account to order it on FA, and the only contact i have with the actual buyer is through that account and email. the only name I know them by besides their inactive DA and instagram handles is their legal name. should I still remove the legal name? it's a bit confusing since in your template you say to list the legal name, but in the note at the top of the page it says to remove it? also they've publicly listed their email in a few places (which is how i found their DA) should I still remove that from screencaps?

Hello! All legal names must be hidden if they do not use their legal name to conduct business. Please submit what you have, with the name censored, and we'll look over your post. With situations like yours we handle them on a case-by-case basis.

Re: I guess im stupid

The template is located at that link. Please be sure to censor real life names and email addresses, and to include as much proof as possible. We do not accept copy and pasted text from emails or notes, so a suitable image host for your screenshots is a must.

Hi! I see you are attempting to post a beware. This is not the approved method of posting. Please join the community(if you have not yet) and then use the "Post to Community" link. From there I and the mod team will review it to see if its valid for posting to the comm as is or if it'll need more work to be approved.

I'm going to SCREEN (not delete) your comment above. You'll still be able to see it so you can copy and paste anything important to the new page. Please do not delete the comment yourself either.

Any questions, my PMs are open.

Textual Proof?
I wanted to report about an user but the issue is that all the proof i had with the user , wich were Skype chatlogs, were deleted after a PC Format, aka i can't post screenshots about it and i don't have any other source of proof.

I'd like to ask if Proof could be textual too, among posting screenshot references of a Sketch WIP's WIP itself and Creation date, for an Art Trade with such user, lnks to journals and also , when trying to post up such Art Trade pic unfinished to a site, such user reported it hardly to the admins to get the pic taken down twice (1 because i mentioned the bad treatment i got from the user and the other because i re-upped the pic without any name mentions nor pointings to the user, ending this 2nd one as a 7 day temporal ban from the community..That means i've got notes regarding this from the site's admin), all of this done by that user in an attempt of "Not letting anyone notice his actings towards me, so that user's popularity etc wouldn't go down", who blocked/removed me from any media just so i don't get in contact with him (And i haven't insulted the user at all, all i wanted is his half of his trade part's Sketch WIP to be shown just so we both progress and finish it).

I know this might sound lame or empty of meaning but i have to let people know about this user's behaviour/treatment to people without doing it into certain art sites that could end up with my account because of this.

Thanks in advance

Re: Textual Proof?
Hi! As a general rule, we do not accept pure text as proof.

You need to be able to, at minimum, prove a transaction/trade was agreed upon. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to have the original trade IMs/PMs, if it can be inferred from later communications that there is a trade. Unfortunately if you can't do this, we can't accept a post.

The easiest way to be sure would be to simply write up and submit your post. If it's rejected, you'll receive the reason why to the email you have attached to your LJ account.
